Anyone know of a source for Beta gearbox synchros? My mechanic
thinks my 2ND gear is too difficult to engage. But then so is reverse.
Maybe I didn't adjust the linkage properly after I installed new
linkage bushings? I had new Betas yrs. ago & their shifting was
somewhat vague but okay. This one has lots of slop. Suggestions.

Sure. TMH lists them all (http://montehospital.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=15&sort=20a&page=2).

If two gears mysteriously become harder to engage after you've installed new linkage bushings, and there's lots of slop in the shifting, I'd say you don't really need a new synchro. It sounds like you're right to suspect the linkage adjustment.

So are Scorp & Beta/Beta gearboxs the same? This posible
synchro need would be for my '82 LBZ.

While you're checking out the shift linkage, also check the stay rod bushing.I changed the shift bushings on my Beta with John Montgomery's kit and found the shifter was still difficult in 1st and reverse. It turned out to be the small bushing in the stay rod was just about gone. This bushing looked to be made out of a similar material to the main shift bushings, and was falling apart also. This is the adjustment rod at the very front of the shift rod.The bushing is located at the bottom of the rod with a 10 mm bolt through it (or a 10 mm nut on a stud,I can't remember) holding it in place against the transmission.Look down between the engine fan and transmission and you'll see it.

I have a few synchro rings amongst piles of spares in the garage they will be delta/beta era can't look at the moment as I'm struck down with a relatively mild case of flu but if you know the part number you want i could have a look in maybe a week or so. Can't imagine I'll ever use them so not expensive!
difficulty to engage gears can also be linkage or more often incorrect grade of gear oil all Italian cars will have a stubborn when cold second it seems to be a tradition

They are the same box. The Scorpion and Montecarlo drivetrain is really considered a FWD system. The only real difference is in some of the gear ratios and the vertical shift rod.

Second gear is normally engaged with the foot until the trannie oil warms up, "Jim Keller Line "
Linkage probable the problem along with some normal easily driven around synchro problems, Syncro replacement is not needed until you realize you aint got one anymore so look for other causes like adjustment and gear oil being used.

Thanks all. I suspect linkage mis-alignment. I have new GL-1
[?] from Vicks in both this car, LBZ, & the Scorp. Bigger fish
to fry w/the LBZ. After 3+ yrs. of restore w/the LBZ [$20K?]
& 3 recent trips to the mechanic it's close to done but not
reliable. Starts, won't start, starts cold, then not when hot.
I replaced the entire F.I. system @ beaucoup expense. 1ST
trip to the mechanic was $733, 2ND was $608, 3RD was $533.
Those expenses, per trip, involved other work. Now he & I are
down to make the damn thing start, hot or cold, & become
reliable. My mechanic knows Bosch anything F.I. back & forth,
I don't blame him. Were it not for the fact I have so much of
my time & money in the car, + my insurance agent wouldn't
go above $5K for replacement, I'd pour a couple gallons of gas
in the interior & trunk, ignition = no more frustration or expense.
