The AUDI 5000 (1981&1982) supposedly use the same basic ZF unit and the seal kit for them will work on our Lancias. I have never tried to rebuild one so someone who has tried these replacements should probably post .

Hi
My PS rack became to leaking. I so, this is main rack seal. Were I can by repair kit for ZF rack? While you are waiting for a seal kit you might try just putting in some PS Seal Softener [see post #6 in the thread "Weatherproof inside of conv. top?" (Strange place to talk about PS racks, no?)] My ZF rack went from a continual dribble to zero leakage in just one day. After a few weeks now it is still tight. Others who have used this approach have found it to be permanent. Try it. It might work and only costs as much (in the USA) as two cups of Latte Espresso!
Doing a ZF Rack overhaul is not for the faint of heart and even really good Fiat/Lancia mechanics choose to send them out to a specialist.

I use Lucas Oil brand "Power Steering Stop Leak" when I get a leak in my Beta racks, (got that tip when I first got into Lancias from Kevin at the Lancia Consortium before he ran it into the ground), stuff works miricals. I had one that poured out the fluid as fast as you could pour it in, (my first and best Zagato actually), so I went and got two bottles of the Lucas stuff, filled it with that snot and Wa La! no more leaks! I did end up having the rack rebuilt a year later for perfection though), Now, I do not recomend the two bottle method as when you start the car at temps under 25 deg "F", the PS belt will squeal like a pig for the first few seconds while it tries to get the thick snot like fluid pumping waking up all your neighbors for 6 or so city blocks! LOL, but it will stop squealing and work fine after you turn the wheel once or twice.
For drips and minor leaks, one bottle will do fine and will not make the steering stiff on first time you turn in the morn nor make your belt sing. It is safe for all power steering equipment and will not void any warranties.......like we have to be concerned about that! ha ha
That said, to do it right, it needs rebuilt, I use Columbus Steer and Gear and swear by their work, they charge about $400 for a rebuild, use to be a lifetime warranty but now they farm out the Beta racks and only give either a 90 day or maybe one year warranty. Their only buissness is rebuilding power steering equipment. They are in Columbus Ohio and you can find them in the white pages only under "Steer and Gear"

Reminds me when I got one of those spam voicemails "informing" me that the "factory warranty" on my car was about to "expire". Seeing as my '79 Zag is my only car, I had to laugh. Wow, Lancia must have one hell of a factory warranty that lasts 30 years... ah, but the catch is, good luck finding a dealer to honor it! :D
