If you're willing to deal with lost paperwork, this looks like it might not be a bad deal. Or part it out and sell me the 2-liter FI:

If your interested in this, check with your local BMV like I did way back, in doing so, they informed me of their requirements to obtain a new/replacement title and I even got the phone number os a couple attorneys that handle same, ended up it is a payment of $250 to the attorney and about a month wait for the title to come in the mail here in Ohio. I did nothing but write a check and hand over the VIN number to the attorney, "easy as pie"......although, I have never been able to successfully bake a pie, (getting the crust right is my problem), so the statement "easy as pie" really makes no sense! it's actually hard as hell to make a truely good pie! Don't you just love these cars with out titles and long stories about ownership. The current owners always say it is so easy to get a new one .. Why then haven't they done it?
There is some outfit in LV that supposedly specializes in that for a price. They buy your car on a Bill Of Sale, get a Maine title and then sell it back to you with the signed Maine title. The only money that changes hands is their fee. Some body on MIRA posted he used them and everything worked fine. No personal expierence, just commenting.

I was looking at this car when it popped up on craigslist (still is). I'm with Jim, if it's so easy, why not get the title and triple your price on the car? So I called the Colo DMV to see what the process is.
Here in Colo, I was informed, it's a dead end if no title comes with the car, or you can apply for a salvage title and use the car for parts only (why get one at all? because the junk guys have to have some sort of title to come get the remains when you're done with it).
Anyway, it sounded like a dead end, or a real headache to get the car to another state to have the vin inspected, then apply for title (Utah does this) there, then bring it back to Colo and do it all over again. uuuggghh.
Now I know why the seller is not doing the paperwork. I think it's a decent car, though. And if your state is more accommodating, it'd be worth it. It's on CL for $500, so the seller has his price already on ebay.

With any luck this is easier in other states... I'm kind of amazed that a lost title (especially on a car of such low value, where it's less likely to be stolen) is so hard to replace.
