Calling all Monte experts!
I purchased my car a few weeks ago without a registration document (which I have now applied for) - I know, I know, not a good thing to do, but the guy seemed pretty honest....
Anyway, it has been resprayed, and with the help of RossoCorsa I have discovered that the original colour (518) was gold. However, according to his info this was not available on an S1 Monte! :?
What I want to know is:
1) Can anyone confirm or deny that this colour WAS available on an S1?
2) Does anyone know a way I can confirm the year in which my car was made independantly of the registration document?
Obviously I have the chassis number, but my local Fiat dealer didn't have a clue about Lancias.
Any ideas?
TIA

DK, hi well done for buying a great Italian sports car. You should have many hours of fun. S1's did come in gold , I know this because I have one. All beit in pieces in the back garden. If you have the chassis number you might be able to work out the age by finding soneone with a number close to yours on the Montecarlo consortium database and seeing what age their car is. www.montecarlo.org.uk, hope this helps, cheers Paul.

Hello and welcome aboard.
The year of first registration is not neccessarily the year of manufacture. All rhd S1 Montecarlos with glass rear buttresses were built from 1977 to 1978. Some cars were not registered until 1979. All S2 cars were built in 1980 but some were not registered until 1983, some have not been registered yet!
You need to be a Montecarlo Consortium member to get into the database but the site http://www.sicap.it/malara/ has listings on http://www.sicap.it/malara/gp1.htm
The Montecarlo colour codes are famously confused - the chassis plate codes give a different number from the brochures. However the guru (Rod Shipley) relates brochure code 144 to chassis code 518 for Beige Metallizato also known as Beige Dore Metallizato. Without guarantee this code relates to an Akzo Nobel code of LAN9143.
The Akzo Nobel people are very helpful and can be contacted via http://www.akzonobel.co.uk/
Good luck, Leo (Chassis ...4848)

this is probably due to the colours being pininfarina as opposed to Lancia this always causes confusion with 'coachbuilt' built cars that didn't use the same colours (although often very similar to) as Lancia, the flavia coupes are an example although if you can find a colour chart in this case the colour codes are correct

Hello again DK,
I hadn't noticed that you had the chassis number at the end of your message. In the consortium list 3202 is not listed so has been on the "outside" until now. #3200 and #3211 are the nearest and they are both "S" registrations.
However #3233 is an "R" registration so that car and all others with lower chassis numbers must have been built early on, probably early 1977. Arnoud Cohen in the Netherlands is always interested in hearing about "new" Montecarlos, he may have production dates.
http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~scorpion037/ http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~scorpion037/listmain.html
Arnoud has #3205 listed - also golden but registered in 1978
Arnoud will want a photograph of your car to add to his archive.
Alan, good point on the colour confusion, presumably the brochure was made up by Lancia staff but not the ones who did the Flavia ones.
Ciao for now, Leo

Hi DK,
To give you an idea of possible manufacturing date, my S1 #3686 was built (does that mean finished?) in October 1977 according to Lancia Deutschland, and not registered in Italy, its first registration country, until March 1978.
At a wild guess, that probably puts yours somewhere in the summer of 1977?
The only trouble is, I suspect Lancia made up the date they have in the letter they prepared for the PO of my car!
Cheers
Paul
