My S1 Monte Carlo has been re-sprayed in yellow, but I am trying to find out what colour it was originally. The colour code on the chassis plate says '518' - does anyone know what this code means?

TIA

this is the S1 colour chart, I'll check my small collection of paint chips to see if I can find this code for you

Thanks Alan.

I did go through the colour code jpg's in your album, but couldn't find 518 anywhere. I double- and triple-checked it on the chassis plate and it definately says '518'.

I'd appreciate it if you could find any info for me at all.

on a set of ICI autocolor charts that I have 518 is 'champagne' dated as 1981 onwards it's a gold very similar to 144 beige met on the monte colour chart

Cheers Alan! :)

Hmm, that's strange...my car is apparently a 1977/78 model, so how could it be painted in a 1981 colour? Very odd :?

well I am not sure that the date info will be 100% however it does seem very like a series 2 colour that I remember, I'm not very knowledgeable on montes you really need help from someone else in the group. It is not entirely unknown for colour ranges to be different in according to the original country of sale on some occasions

Thanks again, Alan. I will seek further guidance from the Monte experts! :)

Hi, just surfing thru the website and came across your dilemma. Did you find out what colour it used to be. I had a Series 1 in red, but when I stripped out the dash board the colour on the front bulkhead was blue and this was the original colour. If you look in those hard to get to places you might just find the old colour, cheers Paul.

Hi,

I saw in DJ's album:
http://www.lancisti.net/forum/modules.php?set_albumName=DJ-s-albums&id=col&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php
a picture of the Scorpion Colours for 1976. These included Metalic Beige 144!
So even if this colour was not on the European choice list, cars were pehaps being produced in the colour. Maybe the original owner made a special request - or this is one of the rumoured Scorpions, unsold, returned and converted to Montecarlo - that I doubt as the steering wheel is on the wrong side!
Similarly, real leather is not known to be on any UK cars although Scorpions apparently were trimmed in leather, not vinyl, sometimes.

Just a thought,
Paul

All Scorpions I've ever physically seen were trimmed in leather. In fact, I can think of only two that were supposedly in cloth, but I've never seen them. One of those also had no AC from the factory, which is also rare for a Scorp. I have suspicions that this particular car was originally brought into Canada.

Regards,
