Hi all,
I want to remove the inner moulding of the sail panel which appears to support the glass on 77 models. I've already removed the three screws but don't know if I push, pull, or pry piece off. Your assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Allan

While I'm on the topic of removing parts, could someone also tell me how to carefully remove the side pillar vents and top piece, please. Thanks again. A

Hi Allan,

I don't think that panel is easily removed - or at least I don't think I've ever had it apart. I just masked it as it was sprayed.

- Side vent is attached at the bottom - you get to the retaining bolt in the engine compartment. Lean forward and look underneath at the reverse side of the vent and you'll see it - it's a 6mm nut iirc. There is a line of them, the rest of which help to hold on the side trim. Once you've removed the nut, lift the vent at the bottom edge to clear the body and pull down. The capping is retained by another nut (8mm or 10mm - I can't remember which) on the underside. Go easy and use plenty of plus-gas, WD40 or your equivalent or you will pull the bolt from the capping.

Good Luck!!

What Darren said, it is quite a job.

It is not possible to take the panel off which you are trying. I dont remember exactly wether the complete metal frame had to be taken off. But you do have to remove the plastic vents just in front of the window anyway. Screws of those are located in the enginebay.

The following step was either removing the two rubber holder at the bottom of the glass, or first remove the metalstrip running below it (again screws in enginebay). If that is not sufficient, remove the entire metal part. screws again to be found in the enginebay, and behind the plastic vent panel that was removed earlier.

I wish you luck, if you are going to do it ;)

Merijn

Are you pointing to a screw there?

The ones I have seen (scorpions) have three screws on the inside (underneath) that panel that retain it. Additionally, the panel is snapped into place around the actual glass channel, and as others noted does not need to be removed- to remove the glass you take the whole upper part off of the lower part.

It may have originally been to change the glass, but that part is essentially captive in situ IMO since it would need to come downwards on the tail end and slide back for removal- neither of which is likely in its installed position.

Can't speak as to Montes in the event they are different.
