Are you sure you mean part #3 in the diagram? AFAIK that's a nylon (plastic) bush for the upper spring perch, isn't it? You wrote metal cup, which has me confused.

that part is definitely metal (unless the Italians have invented rusty plastic!) it sits between the upper rubber thing (part 1) and the spring top

OK maybe I am confusing it with part #2. Sorry- don't have one.

many betas are running around without this piece it is,I suspect, the most rust prone part of the whole car!!

I've had 27 Zagatos and 6 Coupes, never had a metal band like that between the upper rubber isolator and the spring........if there ever was a metal ring there, it sure would make for a lot of squeak noise in the suspension I would think, I just looked over the two rear mount assemblies I have in the shed and neither has any metal parts like that, must have been real thin poor quality fast rusting Russian steel since NONE of the 33 Betas I have had ever had any........and I took apart every one of the 33 cars struts at one time or another for either replacement or stripping for parts! LOL Are you sure you just don't have a rust flaked covered rubber isolator? those I have seen many times, stiff as a board until you flex and scrape off all the rust from the upper perch.......not saying the part isn't suposed to be there in metal, just never encountered one......unless it WAS the rust that had made the rubber isolator stiff as a board I've been flexing and scraping off! ha ha ha

nope as i actually have one which I have cleaned painted and assembled to the nearside rear damper assembly!! it sits between the upper rubber ring thing and the spring it is a reasonably thick gauge metal but protected by a very thin coat of paint and rusts accordingly out of 4 rear dampers i have taken apart for this car two had no sign of one at all one had one that was 50% cobweb and the other was sound with only surface rust, I think the answer is yes you have been flexing off the remains after all think about it where the hell else would that amount of stiff rust residue come from?

They do exist! LOL
I was in my shed during a break from yard work and picked up my rear mounts and looked them over closer, I actually have about a 4 inch identifiable section left that hasn't rusted away from all the Ohio winter salt! it even has some of the coating left on it, however, the metal inside the coating is just layers of swelling rust, no real metal left.......being in a state that uses probably more road salt from late October to late April than any other place on earth is probably why I never realized they were supposed to be there!.........I stand corrected AND educated! LOL
