Thought I should split this off from my Megasquirt thread.
------------------------------------

In what little time I had this evening I tried to get the right speaker re-mounted but am having all sorts of aggravation with the damn cover that won't stay on.:scratch:

Yet another long and stupid story so suffice it to say that both set of speakers I have use covers that slip on and they've always been reluctant to stay on. They are constantly popping off and I finally got fed up with it. Accordingly, I just ordered a new set of speakers with covers that screw on. :'( It really pisses me off because I love the speakers and the new ones I ordered don't have specs nearly as good.

What kind of speakers did you have? What kind of speakers are
you getting? Why not just lightly glue/adhere the old speaker's
grills in place & save some money? I put Polk speakers in my
Scorp [not connected as yet], Polks soley because the order
taker @ Crutchfield said that's all they had that'd fit @ the time
I ordered them. I don't like the grills but the speakers fit soooo.

Why not just keep the old speakers you like and get some generic screw-in grilles to cover'em up? Also makes'em look like nothing special worth breaking in for, to any prying eyes that might happen to wander by...

Actually easier said than done. I simply could not find any grilles that I thought would work.

Can you bore, tap and screw through the grill and whatever feature it slips over? Obviously, without a pic we are all pretty much in the dark as far as suggestions.

David's suggestion may work well too, there are some mucilage type adhesives out there that are pretty good and I know of one speaker mfr (JBL) that uses adhesive to secure grills. Should also help vibration.

I had 2 different sets of 6.5 inch Kenwood eXcelon DualMag speakers with different types of grille mounting. They are excellent speakers and have 2 very small "super" magnets and small frames, which facilitates mounting them in the Scorpion footwells. Glueing the grilles on wasn't an option because I may need ready access to the ECU behind the right-side speaker.

I initially bought a set of 6.5 inch Blaupunkt GTx-652 speakers but they are still unopened because I made the mistake of going down to Car Toys and listening to several sets of higher end speakers.

In the past, I never cared for JL Audio speakers because they were really expensive and never sounded as good as other less expensive options. However, they now have a new line of speakers that sound incredible. It happened to be my birthday so I was able to convince my lovely wife to buy me a set of JL Audio Evolution C2-650x speakers since she didn't know what to get me otherwise.

Then, after getting the new JLs and starting to install them, I remembered why I had bought the Kenwood DualMags to begin with. The smaller magnets on the Kenwoods made it unnecessary to modify the mounting plates in the footwells. They slipped right into the existing holes.

Installing the JLs required removal of the metal mounting plates to enlarge the hole so the larger frame would fit. It was a good exercise for me to do anyway because it forced me to remove, clean, and lubricate the boot latch release cable. Mine was getting really stiff and now it works very smoothly.

The new JLs sound awesome and I can highly recommend them if you want to take the time to modify the mounting plates.

I'll be posting the Kenwoods and the Blaupunkts for sale in the Classifieds section if anyone needs a great set of speakers.

On one set it would have been possible on the edge of the grille. But that's not the set I wanted to use and you know how I am...

On the other set, it's not possible because the grille slips into a small groove around the edge of the plastic ring which screws on. Hard to explain but it's really a moot point now.
