Hi Guy's, My standard Volumex dizzy has black and a blue wire. I dont know if this motor is from a Beta or Trevi. I would like to know if the Beta and Trevi units are the same? I also need to get hold of a ignition unit. Are there any after market units that fit the standard dizzy or has anybody a standard unit for sale. :)

Ross,
The dizzies of all VX Beta derivatives are the same, although some later cars had slightly different wiring it does the same job

I don't know if there are any aftermarket units suitable for the VX (Will in the States might know better :?: ) other than replacing the whole lot (dizzy, ignition module etc) with something by Lumenition or similar, you are indeed 'stuck' with finding a secondhand unit.
Chris Chennel is breaking a VX HPE (see other posts) which if I recall has had a complete ignition overhaul, if he can't help I have several secondhand modules, email me off line and will see if we can work something out.

My ears perked up, Hamish ! ;)
What I've got is a FIAT dizzy, so slightly different.
The ignition modules on all the betas I've seen are regular GM modules, but they are covered over by a big heat sink. These are cheap and easy to find. What is the Vx dizzy, points or mag pickup? The dizzys with the mag pickup, the pickup comes in several flavors. You need to make sure you get the polarity of the magnet right (some only fit one way, others are marked with a line on the top or bottom of the magnetic plate, depending on brand), and you need to make sure the wires don't snag the rotor (some wires are correct length, others must be twisted into a loop and/or tywrapped out of the way. Theey are all interchangeable form a mechanical standpoint as far as I know, and all use the same connector.
Mind you I'm not so good with ignitions ;)

If I were looking for a replacement system, I would go with something like the Crane on the low end, and as I started to increase my budget would be looking at something like F.A.S.T EDIS system (fuelairspark.com) and then, if I were feeling really flush, integrated fuel injection and ignition control.

Dizzy has gone now, along with the engine. Still have the virtually new ignition amplifier, but thats easy to come by - same unit as fitted to the rover 214 from what i understand.

Ross, I have my vx distrib ib bits at present, can send u pics if u need to see the wiring. I am mounting mine parralell to the exh cam facing forwards being driven from exh cam by a smalll belt, complicated but nearly the only way for the engines application. theis has meant inverting the guts of the distrib so advances not retards! hope the magnet polarity isnt a problem, any ideas??
