Red exterior, red interior [Will's].. Now we have the option of chrome
paint? My vote for the most butt ugly Italian factory exterior/interior
scheme was Maserati Boras [mostly] & a handful of Meraks. White
pearlescent/oyster shell exterior paint & light ice blue leather interior.
IIRC the dash was that color along w/the leather seats. Musta looked
like the inside of Zsa Zsa Gabor's house in Beverly Hills in the 1960s !

Well, there isn't a worst combo which comes to mind, but generally my least favorite in '70's I-car color is "gold". It just always looks cheap to me. I know there are a lot of Scorps that color, and tastes vary, but if someone gave me a perfect gold Scorp, I'd sell it for what I could get and buy silver ...or metallic green. :-)

Don't forget; Boras had brushed stainless roofs--just one more tasteful touch

John O.: D.J. likes metallic green Scorps too. I think gold Scorps
are uggglie as well. I've always been curious how a Scorp. would
look/appear in yellow, a shade similiar to yellow VW Corrados
back when [I bought a white one]. That was a nice flavor of yellow.
Gotta have the original grey plastic Scorp. trim for yellow, no black
spray paint. Interior: Oxen brown vinyl where applicable & black
leather seats. Sounds like a mish-mosh I know . . .

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeech!

<< I am only using this because I couldn't find a "vomit" smiley!

Well, it would look a lot like this. This is Mike Ross's car in Sacramento. If I had known he was going to install that ANSA quad-tip wrong I wouldn't have sold it to him.

This is Paul Garside's Montecarlo in France during the Le Mans Classic in 2004. Sadly, Paul passed on not long after our trip to Le Mans.

Here are some shots of the yellow Monte that belonged to our French compatriot who we met at Le Mans. I wish I could remember his name.

Yup. Scott, yours is pretty much what I think of now when I recall that metallic green. I think if I were starting over, I think I'd look for a met green Scorp. I still the silver is the classic color, but the green gives it a funkiness I like as well; more playfull, not as serious as the silver.

Oh, yeah Paul Millet- but three Q's:

Last I heard it was an Alfa V6 not a Vx?
Isn't he a Brit?
Did he make a trek to LeMans with the car, or was I reading the location
wrong?
:confused

Hi Will,

1. Yes, it is an Alfa installation - I think the Vx is on there because it's got a supercharger
2. Yes he is a Brit
3. Yep, car has been to Le Mans a few times as well as to Turin for the 100th anniversary.

Hope this helps! ;o))

It's a supercharged Alfa V6.
He is indeed a Brit
The picture was from the 2004 LeMans Classic that we attended with the Montecarlo Consortium. He also brought the car to Torino in 2006 with the club.

How exactly is it installed wrong? Too low? Tips supposed to be angled up slightly? My gold car came with an Ansa exhaust, it doesn't look to be installed any differently.

He, he. I wondered if anyone would pick up on my bait.

Before I ever had an ANSA I heard several owners complain about how the system was a real PITA to install because it wasn't a true bolt-on as it was supposed to be.

After I got mine I initially thought the same thing until I really looked at it and figured out how it was supposed to be installed. It's not initially obvious but is quite simple and it truly is a "bolt-on" once your figure it out.

The real key is in 2 initial actions. First, the silencer mounts as seen in the picture below have to be relocated as shown. The holes are already there for doing this except that the Scorpion mounts will need to be squeezed/bent slightly to allow the holes to line up for the other holes in the frame. After moving the mounts, you also need to reverse the rubber silencer mounts so that they point in the opposite direction.

This is also necessary to mount the Croft exhaust so my assumption is that it's a minor difference between Montes and Scorpions because of the catalytic converters on the Scorpions.

http://lancisti.net/forum/picture.php?albumid=4&pictureid=420

After doing these two things, the ANSA should bolt-up fairly easily and should look similar to these pictures when done. The tips don't hang down nearly as far and they don't stick out quite so much. If you look at their design you'll see how they are curved to provide this sort of contour. (Just for the record, that little spot on my rear valence above the tip already had that indentation in it before I got the ANSA so it wasn't from overheating because of the proximity to the tips. In fact, these pictures were taken just after I had completed the install so it hadn't even run with the new system yet.)

Thanks, John. It is pretty funny that, other than my car, I hate the color green. But for some reason my car is different.

I have always liked small sports cars to be in the basic colors. When you get all foo-foo it takes away from them.

I'll jump in here since I do have some colorful decisions to make. My several year search for a Scorpion ended this weekend when my car was delivered from NorCal. Its Gold on Tan -oh the humanity

We in the UrQuattro community are faced with the same achilles color, Gobi Beige... I have passed on SO many good cars purely based on that particular color. This time, with similar feelings towards Gold, I went ahead and just succumbed to the hateful scheme.

I will be doing a complete interior and exterior on this car anyway. There will be lots of modernization as well, so why not modernize the color too? Im with Scott, sports cars just can't be humdrum colors. I went through a string of colorless (silver, grey) cars, and even my last Scorpion was white although I loved it in white.

Im leaning towards the Skittles selection, thats what we refer to the Lamborghini guys when they all show up on Saturday mornings. There is just something special about an Italian car that is wearing something besides Red. Case in point, Mark Rawlings amazing Lambo Orange Scorpion. That car carries the color SO well that I have no doubt that if I were to choose a similarly loud color it would work on the Scorpion. Last week at Cars and Coffee there was also an S1 Lotus Esprit in a vibrant metallic orange as well as an early Pantera wearing a more pirmary hue of orange - no metallic. Both of those cars were stunning, and of course team Skittles represented in Yellows, Orange, Electric Blue etc...

I know Im not going to opt straight towards a heavily black interior this time around, but I do want something classy, maybe a buckskin or carmel...

The car will be sporting some 037 goodies though so would a Martinin-inspired theme be out of the question? I guess it would have to be kept within moderation...

I completely agree - says he with a 2 red Montes! I absolutely LOVE that orange Scorp = the best I've seen. I think the whole thing 'works' from the graphite rims to the caramel alcantara upholstery. If I were to build another, it would be that colour, or possibly a Ferrari yellow - Mike Ross' car looks great too.

More pics please Mark!:D

Have decided to enter this discussion on colour(s) etc.,
I believe that if a colour suits a vehicle then go for it.
My first Monte was Green but had been resprayed red and had the LDD conversion on it. It seemed red was the colour to have. I happen to like black, goes with my surname and I think that Montecarlos look good in black.
I also think the orange looks very very good. It suits the car.
My 'Project' will be in a 'Green'. Not sure exactly which one but all green with black / grey interior.
Regards
Tom

Supercharged with WHAT? Where is it mounted, in place of the original plenum? I'm trying to figure out where you have room for a SC once you have an alfa v6 stuffed in there, Paul's car was not supercharged in the pics I have, he must have added it more recently.

A couple of shots of Paul's engine bay taken at my home last week.
Are these of any assistance in seeing how he has put things together.
He constantly upgrades his set-up.

It is an Eaton charger - originally from an Aston iirc. an M90. The original one he tried was a 45 and far too much of a screamer - can't remmber if he tried a 62, but ended up with the 90.

Intercooler is mounted where the origial fuel tank sits and fed from the central vent and under the car. Certainly seems to work well!

Cheers

My neighbours will vouch that 1 of the superchargers was a screamer!!
It has got much better.

I need not say that engine is beyond belief. Also pat myself on
my back as Paul did what I did for my deck lid: hydraulic struts
in precisely the same location. Natural attachement point the
factory should have thought of. Back to that engine tho, good
Lord is an understatement!

You will find a number of different arrangements of the gas struts being applied. I have a pair of VW Polo struts ready for my black coupe as with the airbox to DCNF's cannot use the standard arrangement. Paul came over to show me how he had done the conversion. Darren has same principle but slightly different arrangement.
I think we all learn by seing how Lancisti overcome certain problems.
