Hi,

As can be seen in the photo, one of the front wheel arch liners on my car is in a bad state. I can't seem to find them at TMH. Am I looking in the wrong place or are these parts unobtainium?

The people working on the car can repair it with GRP, but I wonder which is the more prudent option: repair or replace?

Thanks.

Justin

Hi Jason,

AFAIK the wheel liners are unobtainium - and in the UK, all they seem to do is trap mud and dirt behind them. Best bet if you want to retain them is get your laminator on the case!

Are they worth retaining in your opinion, Darren? Do people typically remove them?

Thanks,
Justin

My personal opinion is that they are not worth keeping. I think they were only fitted to the series 2 montes, but again I'm not 100% on that. AS far as what others do - they probably leave them in place until they break then remove them. I just don't think they serve any useful purpose.

Just my twopenneth ;o)

Not so sure I agree... every S1 I've owned had bad rust issues around the screen scuttle/wing join. Every S2 I've owned didn't... The only difference is wheel arch liners. Personally, I would keep them on but fix them to the car with stainless-steel self tapping screws screwed into plastic plugs. That way they're easily removable to clean the small amount of dirt that does manage to get behind them. But that amount of dirt doesn't compare to the relentless battering and soaking of the inner wings and lower scuttle/wing join that happens without them. Virtually every vehicle manufacturer fits plastic wheelarch liners and has done for 30 years now. Granted, they're often a better design than the Montecarlo liners but even so... you're better off keeping them.

Andrew.

Interesting. I didn't realize that S1 Montes didn't have the liners. All Scorpions did have them.

Is there benefit to not-running the liners?

I have a spare set in storage in my sisters basement...
