Hey,

How many times has someone asked you what type of car you have, you say Lancia and they say: ahhh a Mitsubishi

Then you have to explain no no no it's actually not a Mitsubishi and so forth.

Well it iritates me anyway.

Happens frequently. I normally then launch into my diatribe about how Lancia is one of the world's oldest marques and how Mitsu blatently ripped off Lancia with the all-too-close "Lancer" name AND the Evo tag.

They normally walk away pretty quickly at that point.

I won't have that problem once mine are on the road. I'll just
walk away if they don't know. I had THE 1ST fully optioned
NEW white VW Corrado in the Midwest, say 2/'91? Guy in a
parking lot says "Nice Geo Metro". I wanted to deck that guy.
As for D.J.: try & explain how many 1STs Lancia has had,
+ worldwide patents for tech innovations. Oh well . . .

OMG, yes!! Very often when they ask me "Hows the restoration going on the Lancer?"

I also have been told to my face when I show them the Beta saying "Looks like an old Beemer from the front." Then I point to the badge.

Well, at least Lancias have become unique, especially markets that dont sell them anymore.

Ha ha ha,
Just last WEEK! I was at AutoZone buying a new battery for the Coupe so we can eBay it and when he asked for the warranty info, we had several back and forths, No, it's NOT a Lancer!, but I can't find it on my computer?, so?, mark it other!, etc....etc....etc... ha ha ha, I just told him it was Italian related to Fiat/Alpha/Ferrari, he nodded his head in confusion and dropped it........kids these days, do they know nothing if it doesn't pop up on a screen at the touch of a button?! ha ha

We finally listed it as an 81 Fiat Spider 2000..........it was as close as he had on the computer, their computer wouldn't allow him to change it to the correct brand/model

There was also Dodge Lancer-s. The lancer badge showed up a few times over the years on Dodge
(1955-59,1961-62,1985-89). My favorite was the 1962 Dodge Lancer GT (http://oldcarandtruckpictures.com/Chrysler/1962DodgeLancerGT2DoorHardTop01.jpg) .The guy with the 1982 Zagato I am helping with (see Charleys albums,82 Zagato) has an 1989 Dodge Shelby Lancer. Like this (http://www.intencity.cc/members/index.php?action=viewmember&username=shancerlelby) It is a sweet car.

I was driven home from the hospital and then for the first 7 years of my life in a 1961 light green, push button on the dash automatic slant 6 Dodge Lancer Station Wagon.......no one said my parents had any taste in automobiles! LOL My brother sister and I used to fight over who "got" to ride in the back with our beagle. It was a very reliable car, they never had any problems with it in the 7 years they had it. Dad traded it for a 68 Chevy Impala fast back he special ordered in red with black vinyl top and white seats, 327 4bbl with 3 speed auto and posi, it was WAY cooler, I could finally let my friends at school see me getting out of the car! ha ha ha

I'm sure you know this Jim- but for the others be careful the top posts and terminals clear the hood! I turned my Zagato into an 80CCA stick welder, fortunately the battery posts melted off in a puddle of white-hot slag before any major damage to the car ensued. That's the kind of mistake you make once, and only once!

LOL! To quote John Kerry: "...seared, SEARED into my memory!"

No worries Will, it's a 42 series battery, correct for the car right down to indented terminals and the red plastic positive terminal cover, they just didn't have a listing for any Lancia anymore so I stuck it under the nearest listing they had, I didn't use a Spider battery, I guess their computer guru's decided to drop Lancia all together from their system as they used to have it for some items like fuel, oil, air filters and spark plugs, even though they always listed the wrong numbers for 81-82 anyway! LOL, they called for 79 carb car parts in the old listings.

Yes, It's happened to me too many times that I care to remember!! I just say: "Well, Lancer may be the answer, but Lancia is waaay fancier!"

Very few folks 'round these parts have ever seen a Scorpion. They tend to be middle-aged guys who see it and get flashbacks about when they/their friend had one during the good ol' days. These guys are always nice and willing to give pointers, etc.

A very attractive 40ish female saw me filling it up and began chatting with me about her ex-husbands Ferrari Mondial and the fun they had in it. I could tell that she was tempted to leave her mundane life behind and hop in with me....

People my age are all communists and hate me because of the car. It has lost me several friends. I stop just short of saying "hey bub, you could have bought 15 of these for the price of your hideous boxy soulless SUV".

A surprising number of people think that it is a Lotus or Porsche. A few think Ferrari.

That's OK but I always correct them. It's not anywhere near being a Ferrari.

But most people ask me if it is/compare it to DeLorean.

I hate hate HATE it when they say DeLorean because it just says so much about their mass-media fried brains.

When the next guy compares or mistakes your Scorpion for a DeLorean, just ask them if they know where Deloreans were manufactured. Most will not have a clue,or guess Italy. Then you can educate them. "My Scorpion is a real Italian car that was actually made in Italy and designed by an Italian named Pininfarina. Deloreans however were only designed by an Italian named Giugiaro, and manufactured in Ireland". ;)

Hehe....

The big Lancia emblem looks a bit different than DMC. They shouldn't notice that before seeing the prominent round headlamps....

But before seeing that, they should notice the lack of gull-wing doors. And judging by those yet-to-be fixed rust spots, i'd say no stainless-steel body panels.

Best of all, no Doc Brown or flux capacitor behind the seats....

So for them, will it be back to the future or back to the optometrist?

In preparation for a road event tomorrow, this afternoon I pulled into my local gas station to put some more air in the tires. As I'm bleeding down the pressure, a car pulls up next to me, a fellow pops out with his small daughter in tow, and says "complimenti a la tua macchina". He had a car just like mine back in Italy. His HF was a 2-litre. No 2-litre Fulvias, I explain, but he's pretty sure his was a 2-litre. Could it have been a Flavia? 2000 HF? Yes, that's it. Piacere. Saluti.

Altogether a much better mistake. But sometimes, even when they know, they don't quite know...
