View Full Version : Scorpion Intake cam rear seal size

Working on a Scorp head and have the intake cam with the distributor gear and the damn air pump shaft extension on the rear. I thought I had the correct rear cam seals on hand but unfortunately I do not. I either need to source a metric one locally or find out where to get one.
Does anyone know a source? IAP/VAS do not list them. I am pretty sure the size is 37mm OD, 26mm inner diameter (or 27 as it measures right in between) and 7mm deep. Any ideas where to look?
Thanks

Do you need to keep that cam and the pulley for use, Jon?
If not, you can use a different cam without the extension or just cut it off with a hacksaw and just plug the hole with a machined disc.
Even better, get an intake-side box from a Beta, which has a normal end-cover and the correct oil gallery ports.
Sorry that's not the answer you were looking for but I've NO idea where to find that little seal. You might try Obert or Bayless. They always seem to have a lot of odd stuff no one else has. Also try Ed P here. He may have something, as well. If you could find a gasket/seal set specifically for a Scorpion, that would probably be the trick.

Hi Jon;
Transmission supply. That's where I get all my seals and I can get much better ones (Viton even) than the stock ones.

That is a good idea I hadn't thought of. The cams are a PBS 40/80 grind and it has the extention. I thought of cutting it off and using a standard cam end cap but I would have to somehow seal the oil passage at the lower side.
I bet I could find a 37mm freeze plug and install with a bit of rtv. Might be the best bet. Thanks for the idea.

Solution!!!
Turns out the valve tappet cups are exactly the same diameter as the rear seal of the Scorpion intake cam cover. I cut the top off of a space tappet (I have hundreds of those) and cleaned it up with a grinder. Finished it was exactly the 7mm thick I needed for the rear cam plate. I used jb-weld around the edges of the seal housing and drove the tappet top in. Once it is dry, I will clean up the outer edges and put on a protective coat of paint.
Cutting the rear shaft of the cam off was not a problem at all. Thanks for the idea!

Our fearless leader DJ was correct...
In case anyone does need them, I do have brand new original Lancia seals for the air pump pulley extension out in my garage. Just send me an email if you need one.
Best Wishes,
Ed
