Hi,

I just received these photos from the fellow who's getting my Monte roadworthy after a 5-yr+ absence. The garage is modern and dry, so I don't know how this rust appeared... But anyway, it needed repairing, and here are some photos.

I reckon the welding looks good. He says that minimal filler will be needed. The car is now silver, but the luggage bay was always in good condition, so we left it in 'champagne metallic' (not my favourite Monte colour, although it seems to suit Gammas - especially fastback ones).

Any comments welcome.

Justin

Once the welding's done, I think we'll probably hammerite the boot (trunk in the US) in black. The engine bay's already black hammerite and it seems to protect against corrosion pretty well.

The fellow carrying out the work is a proper Lancisti, with an array of rare cars. He's based in the West Country. If you like the look of the work I can put you in touch with him.

My comment is you are fortunate the rust wasn't on the strut
tower "structural" [circumferential] weld. I have heard many
US Scorpions met a premature demise due this. Road salt,
circumspect factory undercoating of the inside shock tower,
poor, porous welding, gaps, etc. Luck !

I'd use POR-15 rather than hammerite or smoothrite for that matter. Frost do a preparation, which is very tough and will prevent a reoccurance.

Good work and great to see some progress!

Keep it up!
