Who stocks a correct Scorpion water pump for my 1976 #574? I'm concerned that I receive one with the correct impeller size/length.

Thanks,

Mark

Vick AutoSports (http://vickauto.com) has had them in the past. Normally you would want to speak with Csaba but he is now gone and Vick's has new ownership (Jerry Lee Phillips). It's worth giving them a call but just make sure you stress that you want the Scorpion pump, NOT the Beta pump (unless it happens to be a Beta VX pump).

IAP (http://international-auto.com) carries them but you need to call to see if they have in stock.

The Monte Hospital (http://montehospital.com) will definitely have them. You'll pay a bit more but you'll be sure to get the correct part.

I believe Chris Obert (http://www.fiatplus.com) also carries them. Again, pricier than most but you'll get the right part.

You could also contact Bayless (http://www.baylessfiat.com/). Their current inventory sheet doesn't list one but they have lots of stuff not listed.

If all else fails, keep an eye out on eBay.

However, if all you can find is a Beta pump, you should be fine with it. I've known several folks who use them on their Scorpions with no problems.

In addition to all that I just posted, I just checked Rock Auto (http://www.rockauto.com).

If you select 1977 Beta Montecarlo in their catalog you'll find a Quinton Hazell unit for $32.79 + $27.40 Priority shipping from the UK (only shipping available). However, if you enter 14241571222255 in their "How did you hear about us?" field you get another 5% off until April 5.

Grand total is $58.51 delivered. Not bad, really.

As usual, I always forget to mention Omicron Engineering (http://omicron.uk.com). Check there with Andrew (http://lancisti.net/forum/member.php?u=45). He will likely also be able to source a pump for you.

IIRC the QH unit is the one with the black plastic impeller, no? In Florida, I would go IAP and have it in a day at a good price.

Couldn't say. I've heard (from you I think) of pumps with plastic impellers but I've never seen one nor known anyone who ever bought one.

Maybe one of our folks from across the pond could comment.

IF they have it in stock. If not it could take a while. Currently listed as "Call for Availability".

Hey Mark,

I think you've already gotten some great advice on where to look for the genuine item. I'm not exactly sure if this will help or not, but when I was chasing down overheating issues, I discovered that the PO had installed a Beta pump rather than a Scorp/Monte variety.

Here is a small album I put together about it:

There are other slight differences as I recall, but the biggest can be seen in this pic which specifically compares the Beta impeller to the correct Scorp/Monte one:

I hope that helps.

Good God JohnO those are some nasty pics. I too have heard 'ya
gotta have a Scorp. pump. I replaced mine about a yr. ago, Bruce
had one left. No luck w/Vicks nor IAP. So by default, as D.J. said,
that leaves C. Obert or TMH. Think I paid Bruce $90.

Not only is it better to have the Scorp pump, but the right gaskets and someone who installs them the right way 'round. You'll note in the pics that the installer used the wrong pump to block gasket (probably right for a Beta) and flipped the asymmetrical outlet gasket so that the passage was partially blocked

Think I paid Bruce $90.

I got mine from Bruce a couple years ago and I think I paid was about that. $85 sticks in my mind.

Hi. I have been using a stock Lancia pump for over a year now with no problems, including in the summer in California with the AC going. The electric fans never come on, unless the car is sitting in traffic. I also got a 65 amp alternator from the later Betas ( Lester No. 13152 ) with a solid state regulator and this keeps the battery healthy with the AC going and all. But my cooling system is sound and I recored my radiator as it was corroded. The key is everything must be in first rate condition and no leaks. I use the newer extended life green coolant. I added water wetter to see if it made any difference and it seemed to be a few degrees cooler with the stock temp gauge.

Last I checked, Vick's and IAP had no Scorpion pumps.
