Thinking about getting a less practical car (than a beta volumex hpe), and was wondering about a nice fulvia zagato, probably in 1600 s guise. Anyone had any experience / comparisons with these? its either that, an early 70s marcos v6 (currently my fave idea but im being warned off them as too impractical / dangerous at every turn!) or sticking with the volumex.

The sills are easier to repair than the Coupe because they don 't have the outer layer. Talk to Omicron or www.verelancia.com - just buy the best you can afford!

Hi,
for weekend trips with wife & (small) kid, the Fulvia Zagato is very useable. The guy I bought mine from used to take holidays in it with wife & 2 children; the latter started moaning only when they were about 4-5 years.
Nevertheless I am in the process of buying an HPE myself, as I cannot transport furniture in the Zagato, and installing roof bars will be a bit odd..
Series 1 are enjoying a come-back in terms of value (10.000 euro on the continental Europe market for a decent one, not superb - and then they buyers need to hurry). Don't know about Series 2 but these are a bit less collectable (and all 1600 are Series 2).
Good luck.

Yes I had a 1600 and it was a joy to drive - doesn't particularly like traffic or busy roads rather prefers the open A roads. Gearboxes can be a bit firm when cold but thats true of many of the Lancia boxes. Some parts/trim difficult to find - headlamps, badges etc Kept maintained and with good bodywork I'd recommend it. Not as well built as early series coupes though - Lancia expected to sell many more - lower volume specialist cars are seldom of similar quality.
