I hear you, we need to take some lessons from our friends in the UK and Japan LOL!
When I moved in here, I thought 48x13 would be no problem. Ha! It's like one of those chinese puzzles just so I can walk from one end to the other. And the only car in it is a Scoprion. I need to get motivated and do a major ebay sell-off.

Don't get me started. Susan insists on parking her car in there after she's driven it on the street so the floor seems to stay dirty no matter how often I sweep it. Especially this time of year with the snow. >:D
The door faces west to the mountains and there's over a half mile of flat open undeveloped (mostly dirt) area before you get to the first structure west of us. The wind (don't get me started on the wind here either) typically blows downslope off the mountains in the late afternoon and evening. Blows crap (leaves, trash, tumbleweeds) into the garage all the time and tons of dust under the door seal.
Painting the walls and floor is on my list. Just need to get Lucia back moving first and get warm enough temps to paint. It never ends. I'd rather be painting the floors and walls in a new 6+ car garage but got nowhere to put it living in a townhome. :(

Shame you don't have more room D.J.. I think Jim K. built a
detatched garage for more space but again, I think, he has
acreage. I'd think twice about painting your floor: it shows
everything + OOHH the peeling paint from brake fluid, etc.!
I guess I'm lucky. I have a 2+ bay drive-in, basement "garage"
w/beacoup open areas for free standing shelving for parts. I
insulated & drywalled the bay ceilings [yes painted too]. Then
put up two, two bulb ceiling 4' florescent light fixtures in each
bay, ran ceiling BX, wall switches. Lights located over the LBZ's
& Scorps engines where they sit in either bay. I GOT SOME LIGHT!
Each bay has a floor drain so I can wash 'em in the Winter. Great
for my Lancias but my Explorer has to sit outside so all is not rosy.
