Hi guys, just wanted to know something.. As i said in my previous posts my montecarlo has a turbo which came with the car when i bought it. My original thermostat has come to its lifes end :-). Thing is i just used a sh*t load of money on buying new calipers for the car and now paying a R1000 for an original isnt an option. I bought a t-junction thermostate that matchd the temperature of the montys thermo for R200.

Thing is i havnt got a clue on how to start.. I knw hot water pases through the radiater from top then cooler water comes out at the botom so i can figure out which pipe is what.

1)I have a haynes manual for a beta 2ltre spiders engine with a t-junction thermostat but noticed that my montecarlos engine doesnt have the overhead water rail where the bypas hose would conect to the thermostate...do al montecarlos nt have an overhead waterail? Or did they change this when the turbo was put on..?

2)the normal beta spider 2ltre engines water pump pumps the water up through the head then it goes down through the bypas hose(thermo closed) through the bottom water rail into the block then pumpd up through the head again. Since the monty doesnt have the overhead water rail, which direction or where does the water pump pump the water?

3) last question. The t-junctin thermostat has one side which is closed until the right engine temp is reached then it opens up and blocks the the other side of the T. which way would i put it? Or which pipe do i conect it to?

If any1 can help me i would realy apreciate it.. I knw its alot of info:) but please help:) thanks

It would take some effort to describe the entire layout to you, and possibly introduce some error, a picture would be best. If you want to PM me with your email addy I can help you out. Basically the outlet from the head runs to a tee, the forward end of the tee feeds the radiator and the rear of the tee is plumbed to the stat, along with the radiator return, and the stat outlet goes to the water pump.

Cold, the stat is open to the hose that comes from the rear of the tee and closed to the radiator return, this establishes the bypass loop. When it warms up, the bypass loop closes / radiator return opens to provide flow through the radiator. It's a very similar setup to a 124 Spider.

gman use the search function on the forum. D.J. posted some
very helpful pictures, which will show the proper orientation,
some months ago when this topic came up [again].
