View Full Version : Using the new Photo Albums

After all the user aggravation and personal disappointment with the PhotoPost Gallery, I've decided to give the new photo album capability in the latest vBulletin forum software a try. It's part of the new built-in social networking features that I'll also be turning on in the coming weeks. It's got a ways to go with regard to advanced functionality but it's simple, easy to use, and is integral to the core software I use here. As such it will be developed a lot further and will make it a lot easier for me to manage things here.

I'd like for everyone to give it a good testing by starting to move their current albums over to their new album space. Feel free to leave your pictures in the old Gallery until we can get a good verdict on the new stuff. I've closed the old gallery to new uploads but have left it accessible so everyone can still download their photos and re-upload them to the new albums. (Apologies to those of you who have recently uploaded several hundred photos to the old gallery [Darren]). :red face:

It's still rather limited in that it doesn't allow albums within other albums and you can't yet move a photo (next version). The album index also currently shows ALL albums instead of a single link for each user. That is, ALL of your albums will currently show up there but I think that's something we can deal with in the interim to get to a "better place".

There are several ways to access your albums.

Main Menu (left side) -> "Your Photo Albums"
Personal Menu -> User Control Panel -> Networking (left menu) -> "Pictures & Albums"
Navbar (at top of forums) -> "Quick Links" pulldown -> "Pictures & Albums"
Any post you've made in the forums -> Click icon in lower left corner of your user information box.

There are also several ways to access other user's albums.

Main Menu (left side) -> "All Photo Albums" (sorted alphabetically by user ID)
Forum Navbar (at top) -> "All Albums"
Forum Navbar (at top) -> "Members List" -> link in each user's info
Any post made in the forums -> Click icon in lower left corner of the user information box.

DJ,

Photos in my posts are almost always connected to my photo album. When I move the photos I am assuming the links will die. Is this right?

Thanks again for all you do here!

This is very true, but only if you delete the pictures in the old gallery. I plan to leave them in place for some time so we can work through such issues.

Fortunately, it's really easy to edit posts and replace the old links with new ones (hint, hint). :) It's also easy for me to help with this aspect once the photos are in place in the new albums.

It's more difficult for me to help with the actual moves because the admin features are currently minimal for the new albums feature. It requires that I upload everything into my albums, then manually manipulate the database to get the pictures assigned to each user's albums. This will change as the album feature is developed further. The next version is very close and it will have some additional capabilities.

Dj,
I sent you an email last night identifying the Unknown 2004 event, but I also loaded about a dozen photos from the same event, which was the Lancia Motor Club National Rally and AGM at Nottingham, these photos were of the 2 Genuine 037 Rally cars that attended along with one of ing Sergio Limone who was the guest speaker at the saturday night dinner.
He was very interested in the cars, being that he had been so involved with their development at Abarth.
Unfortuinately these photos seem to have gone walkabout as I can't see them anywhere, any idea what might have happened, or should I try again?

We're back in business, I've just uploaded a few photos of Lingotto in 2003 to my Album.
