Anybody here know if new syncros are availabe for our beta trannies. I am
thinking that I might want to replace the 1 and 2 sychro set in my 1982 Zagato :)
Any body do that lately ? Or know of a source.

Wallace: True that it might be less work and easier but I doubt one will be satified with the results. I am sarting to beleive that the beloved Beta trannie has a soft 1st and 2nd gear syncro system....I have yet to drive one that shifts like it should and even though my Scorpion has very good shifting I would like to improve the shifting on my 82 Zagato. It is not rocket science to change syncros. I have rebuilt the fiat 124 trannie and this beta looks no more complicated.
PARTS are the only problem. Will be on the HUNT for the needed parts AND any experienced advice that might be out there. :)

. . and the box you swap it with might well be worse than the original ..!!
I've actually pulled a box to bits myself .. .to change the bearings .. . you'll need a hydraulic puller and bearing splitter !!
Also - DON'T try engaging the gears WITHOUT the rear cover on. It acts as a stop for one of the xselctors (reverse or 5th - can't remeber which). If you do, all the syncromnesh rollers fly all over the garage. Actually, it isn't a bad idea to strip the syncros in a large, clear plastic bag to stop this happening ! And to replace them, use a thin pice of springy metal to hold them in .. .I used the bits from a windscreen wiper blade.
