I am removing the A/C system, was junk, too much weight. I
am down to the evaporator in the heater box. Should that
come out too? Will I realize better air flow w/it out? Appears
I will have voids in the bottom of the box where A/C valves
extrude which may need be sealed if the evaporator comes out.
Advise/sugestions appreciated.

It took me about a month to COMPLETELY remove the AC. If I had to do it over I would just pull the condenser/drier/evaporator/compressor/hoses and not touch anything else. There's about a mile of wire that's tied into everything else. Paring it all away is a monumental task.

I've got the lower half of the heater box dropped down, a bit.
The A/C exchanger up top is loose on the passengers side but
me-thinks there's a screw or some connection on the driver's
side I can't see nor feel. Suggestions? Looks like I'll need to
fab a screen of some sort for the cowl intake if I ever get that
A/C thing out to keep leaves & critters from getting into the box.

I've got a completely disassembled box I can take pictures of if need be. If you've removed all the spring clips holding the box together, the lower should come off, if there's enough clearance in the car, that is. There are 3 clips on each side, and 2 in the back (closest to the passengers), none in the front.

IIRC, the evaporator won't drop out until you remove the heater core. There is a separate molded plastic piece that holds the heater core in the box and it has a lip that sort of hold the rearmost edge of the evaporator in.

Yes all clips are off, yes clearance is an issue: 3/4" hoses are still
in place + all the wires. Yes I suspected a plastic lip or shelf was
the impediment. Evaporator wiggles. I suspected this would NOT be
simple. The further I got the more I suspected the whole she-bang,
heater box would need be removed. Shoulda thought of this before
I put in new coolant. Here I go again. Thanks

Thanks to Will & SprintCarFan for the suggestions. The evaporator
is outta the heater box. What fun: NOTTTTTTTTTT !!!! After having
completely replacing the A/C system in my LBZ @ insane $$$$ I
didn't want to repeat the process in da Scorp. I strongly suspect
the A/C system was never maintained. The coagulated milky, yellow,
watery, oily crud I found in most all components led me to believe
the system need be junked unless I wanted another major investment.
At least this way I save some weight. Thanks Gents !
