Hi everyone!

Its been about 10 years since i owned my last 81 Beta Coupe and over the last few years I have had this thought that one day I would get another one.

Well The time has come. So today we went out ot look at a 1976 2L Beta Coupe.

http://tempmort.com/d/5891-1/5a69_1.jpg

It was on ebay for an opening bid of $500.00. Its a bit of a rust bucket really and really quite rough, but it is complete. The good news is that all the rust is basically body panels and nothing structural. Well as far as you can tell without stripping it apart.

So after a couple of hours going over it and a bit of a chat to the guy, he is delivering it tonight to us (its about an hours drive away and he has a flatbed tow truck)

Total cost, well more than $500.00 - $850.00 including him delivering it to us. Considering it would have cost us 100.00 for a trailer or over 200.00 for a tow , so I cant complain too much.

What are we going to do with it..well both my wife and I wanted a track car and were originally looking at 2-door Mk 1 Escorts (used to own a Lotus Twin Cam and a RS1800 BDG) but this came up and i sort of could not help myself.

So its going to be stripped and turned into a track car, probably take a while but will be a fun project.

Tomorrow we start to strip it and probably ebay or list here all the pieces (ie seats, guages etc etc) that we dont need for a track car for sale.

I almost forgot..its a smal world out there...

The bloke i bought it from is called Rob, same as me
I have a German Shepherd called Mercedes
He has a German Shepherd called Benz

and we both got our dogs from the same breeder

:D

EDIT : Car has just been delivered. Its dark out side but we went throught the boot. It seems that there is an extra set of glass (rear quarters, doors) in there as well as various bits of trim (IE Fisher Body Sill Plates)that dont belong to it, a workshop Manual (handy find) and the spare tyre cover.

Hey,

How sure are you that it's a 1976 model? From the photos it kind of looks like it has the blacked out trim and the rubbery bumper from the later models.

Anyway, have you ebayed the bits yet?

The reason I ask is that I'm after some trim bits for my roadgoing Sydney-based Beta...

Cheers,
Hugh
