As part of the continuing 79LBZ saga I am installing a GC 1"wide belt.The first thing I noticed was contact from the stock belt with the head below the exhaust cam. There seemed to be some excess rubber filings in the shroud. Upon looking at the old belt I saw a feathering on one edge. I marked the location and then removed the GC belt and cam wheel. I used a die grinder to cut a grove in the head . The attached picture shows the grove with a black line along the travel route. After the picture I used a large rat tailed file to straighten the grove and a dremel for final smoothing. With the GC belt installed and tentioned I ran it through about 10 rotations and checked the clearance . It measured about 2mm or better.
I didnt actually remove much metal ,just some high spots and edges.
