Anyone here know anything about the gold '77 that was pulled from ebay since last night? Not sure if someone came up with a bang-up offer or if he was getting scared that there was too little activity...

Just that I would have liked to have it, it's only a few hours from me <cry> LOL

Dunno. Seller admitted it has a sub-par paint job. That'd
cost a fortune re-do properly. Especially gold metallic.

To go mono gold as I did mine, it costs less than $1200 including sand paper, bondo, putty, paint, clear, buffing compound, glazing compound and wax, NO LABOR, I did it myself with help from a very experianced friend.......who owes me now for helping him build one of those Factory Five Daytona Cobra "Coupes".....that's how I'm getting the Coupe welded up for FREE! ha ha ha, building that Daytona Coupe was a B#%H!! even HE says he owes me! and is pushing to get started on the Coupe (;-)

That was using PPG paint, 2002 Pontiac Bonnevile Gold metalic with extra metalic added and a tad of pearl. It was the brightest gold I could find at the time and much much better looking than the greenish tint original gold, and the extra metalic and pearl really woke it up in the sun

Okie dokie Jim: you can paint. Me no do so. I'd restart
my prior thread [long time go] about painting but I
won't. Waste of forum time.

I asked him some detailed rust questions and he got very defensive as if I had insulted him. He sent me some pre-restoration pics and then a day later he pulled the auction...

I really don’t want to rag on the seller, people sell and present things for their own reasons, but I guess I’m not surprised he got defensive when asked a probing question. I know I’m going to sound super-jaded but reading between the lines of his description, he was selling an un-sorted-out but basically complete/solid car with a backyard paintjob, while representing it as not needing much. He may have felt he was coming clean about what the car needs, but to me he opened up big ???.

Those of us who’ve brought cars back from years of idleness know description points like PO painted it in his garage, alt light doesn't go out, brakes don't really work, etc. can be serious red flags. Ya, the alt light could be the VR, but also maybe not. If it were me selling, I’d spend the half an hour it would take to try the four VRs on hand; yet the seller didn’t. The car has all new brake parts but the brakes aren’t really working? Hmmmm ...and the seller is generously throwing in a Lancia banner to keep the buyer inspired while squaring up the very basic issues he (with his 30 years of restoration experience) couldn't be bothered to spend a couple hours on to get the best possible money for the car.

Doesn't completely add up IMHO, but maybe I’m just a jaded prick …or maybe I’ve run my head too many times into the wall that sellers build when they're either not completely honest (perhaps even with themselves) or not fully competent to describe the condition of the item they are selling.

John, I could not have said it better, I have never purchased any Lancia that didn't need a boat load more work than the seller let on to or even what you thought after looking it over and driving it!

Yea David, I am lucky to have an experianced body man at hand as a friend who has taught me a lot and held my hand thru the first couple jobs, (they have books that can do almost the same thing less equipment), but all that really taught me was it isn't nearly as hard as it looks, or folks think, "if" you take your time and DON'T get in a hurry, and walk away for a few days when you get frustrated, paitence and practice makes perfect afterall! LOL

Have some confidence man! stop being so negitive! LOL!
