This one was a bit of a surprise...

Browsing through the Lambda Motors site (www.lambdamotors.com) just now, I saw various Lancias for sale in the community area, and I thought I'd take a look. Oh look, I thought, a 1981 HPE, just like mine. Clicking on it, I found it WAS mine...

The ad hadn't been taken down since 1999! Since then, it's passed through the seller's hands, through another owner, into mine. More to the point, though, the car's done, and had done to it, much more than I realised. I bought the car assuming it had done 113,000km - all the receipts pointed to that. The receipts also, rather worryingly, pointed to a new cylinder head in 1995, but I gambled there wouldn't be any major problems with it.

Reading the ad, it became apparent the car has actually racked up 214,000km, or translated about 133,000 miles. (At least, I hope it's 214,000 and not 314,000!) Not a big problem in itself, but it's just nice to know the history of something you expend a considerable amount of time and energy on! The head was replaced at 168,000km, and the car has had a bare-metal respray fairly recently, something else not in the receipts (!). It certainly explains the excellent condition of the paint. It's also had a new dashboard, a new front windscreen (which explains the leaks - it hasn't been put in properly), and all-new discs.

You can take a look at it if you log on to http://www.pcug.org.au/~mcampbel/lambda/notice/beta_hpe81_harl.html (this is a direct link as opposed to going through the site which doesn't give a direct URL).
