 Hi All,
I am looking to install the widest tyres I can to my S2 Monte
I have seen 205/XX fitted on some montes but I can't remember the make or tyre hight.
Can anyone enlighten me

Pretty sure the clearance is the same as the S1 Monte and US Scorpion..
With proper wheels offsets you can go as wide as I did.
Currently running new Goodyear F1's the rear tires I'm using are
245/35 x 17 and the fronts are 205/40 x 17.
Also I'm using lowered springs from Chad at the Monte Hospital. I have no interferense or rubbing.

If you're sticking to the standard 14" rims, then the maximum width you could safely run would be 205 section, as the rim itself is only 5.5" deep (at least I think they're the ones you're talking about - the stock 8-spokers?). That gives you a range between 175 and 205, with optimum width of 185. Any wider than 205 and you need 6" rims.

Thanks correct, it has the stock eight spoke wheels. I need to know the full tyre spec for the 205's I can fit, i.e. 205/55 14 XX H or 205/50 14 XX H etc?

What was the stock original tire size your car came with?
for reference:
the nominal diameter of a 185/70 x 13 is 23.19"
185/70 x 14 is 24.20"
205/55 x 14 is 22.88"
205/50 x 14 is 22.07"
205/60 x 14 is 23.68"
205/50 x 15 is 23.07"
205/55 x 15 is 23.88"
205/40 x 17 is 23.46"
245/35 x 17 is 23.75"
So your speedo isn't thrown too far out of calibration choose the one that closest matches the diameter of the stock tire.

Thanks Jeff,
Thats the info I need. I will have to get my calculator and convert the inches to 'Euro speak' metric though :D
Next stop,,, the Yokohama website

Check out this website as it has lots of options including metric:

And for cheap tyres try these guys:

Toyo proxo's are great! i have them fitted to my Evo and will go on my monte when ready... They are very grippy as they are soft, the downside is that they wear quite quick (especially on the Evo) but the dirt cheap price makes up for it!

Martin,
I have checked out MY tyres. Are your tyres:
PROXES T1-S 195/55 R14 82V Rim-protection £47.10 incl P&P&VAT :D
If so they are almost half the price of the Yokohama equivelant! At that price I am happy to bin my 205 idea :P

Same tyres but different size! I have 225x40x16 on my Delta (None on the Monte yet).
I've had them on for the last 6months and I prefer them to the Yoko's. Don't forget i have them fitted to a 210hp 4x4 Delta so they should easily be up to the job on a monte!

EVO92, thankyou for that Miata tyre calculator link. I'd found it ages ago when I was looking to switch my Beta's tyres from the 195/60 R14 it came with when I bought it to something a bit narrower and closer to stock (175/70 R14), and then misplaced the link. Settled on 185/65s - only 0.7% difference. Very useful...
And my two penn'orth on tyres: I've heard good things about Pirelli's new P6, which is why they'll be replacing the 195/60 P4000s the HPE still runs on, as soon as my funds build up a bit again...oh, and Goodyear's 'old' Eagle F1, the GS-D2, is an outstanding wet-weather tyre, excellent in the dry and not too noisy - and that was on my dad's Mazda. Presumably, tyre noise wouldn't be an issue on your Monte...
