I've got a lead on a set, but the seller just says to make him an offer. I wouldn't even know what to offer him and am affraid to offend him.
What have you guys that have done the conversion paid for your ferrari tail lights? thanks.

Hi fiats2000 and welcome!

Any particular reason to go with actual Ferrari lights? I used the tail lights from an Open Kadet - They're a lot more widely available and are of the same style. See my folder Darren and sub folder - tail light conversion. pic below - I know its not the best quality picture - I must take some shots in daylight with a camera rather than my phone! ;o)

If memory serves, I paid about 30 bucks for a salvageable set and 75 bucks for a good set including p&p from the States to UK. As far as an offer for a set of Ferrari lights - make a silly offer and see what he comes back with - I dunno, start at 50 bucks?

Hope this helps,

Darren

I wondered what your lights were? Now all is answered.
I had to pay 280 bucks for a good set of 308 lights off ebay.
Will look at the Opel ones as an alternative.

weren't the Ferrari lights also shared with the Fiat 850?

Flippin eck Tom, I paid that for a fibreglass bonnet! That is a lot of money for a set of lights - and it answers the question for fiats2000! There are alternatives if you want to go more modern like Jez Pidgen who has mclaren rear lights (same as a bova bus would you believe?) and I think 850 lights were shared with Ferrari Ed, but they probably command high prices too due to the 'f' word association!;o)

Have you fitted your lights Tom?

The lights are not yet fitted. Residing in a box on the shelf waiting. Like yourself one of the tasks on my never ending list!!
I did look at Jez's lights at NEC and then tried to follow up with them on the Internet but met a blank. I met the Mclaren lights would cost a bomb!!

Tom,

I know that feeling well, but I'm getting there! You'll need to source some ABS sheet to mount them if you're gonig to use them. I had the same joy trying to source Bova Bus lights, and ended up with Opel ones instead. You could also try trailer lights - I got a set of those for about 5 quid each and whilst they do have light, brake and indicator - you'll need to sort out fog & reverse, which wouldn't be a problem, but mount them would be quite fun due to their depth and, oh yes - they look like trailer lights! I like the opel units and they are of the same period.

Good luck fiats2000 - post up if not need any help or giudance fitting whatever you end up with!

Sadly like so many things these days if you want what looks different, but suitable and in keeping, you may have to pay the price!!

Darren, 850 relates to a 4-letter 'f' word, so it should be quite quite a bit cheaper than that 'f' word associated with a prancing pony...

I use the 850 berlina/stratos/037 corsa tail lights, I think it gets a bit crowded in the rear with 4 tail lights.

You have a point there Ed!;o) As do you Tom. Hermanzini, I like the lights, but in the UK I think you would have to have a foglight & reverse light fitted anyway, so it may as well be done with a set of similar lamps. Personally I prefer the 4 lamp look, but that's just my opinion! ;o)

Fog light is a legal requirement after (I think!) 1980. Before that doesn't matter. Reverse light is not a legal requirement for a car of that age and may not be even now.

Thanks Andrew - I stand corrected! ;o) I still like 4 round lights at the back though!:D

FWIW, I think the Opel lights mentioned would actually be from a Manta or GT? I don't recall seeing any Kadett with that style of lights, but then again it may have been fitted on a series never imported to the States.

I personally prefer the stock rear lamps, as they follow the car's lines and were designed/made specifically for the car, but if that's not an option or you just prefer something more distinctive, I think 6 smaller lamps (3 each side) may also be an interesting look to consider, perhaps with chrome trim rings, allowing a wider variety of generic lamps to choose from...?

Hi there - you're absolutely right - it was the GT, not the Kadett -I'm getting my opels muddled up! I think they may well have been present on the early Mantas too. Either way, a lot less expensive than the Ferrari items. 3 lights each side would be good, but I think you'd need to alter the entire rear panel for it to work. The conversion I have done means that the standard lights can be put back without too much of a problem.

I believe the rear lights from a Lotus Elise might look appropriate and would certainly be a lot cheaper than ones from the magic 'f'!!

You may be right there Tom - I look forward to seeing them mounted. Are you going to use the original rear panel or make up something else?

I have no plans at this time to go the Elise route.
Good friend of mine has an Elise and in discussion he said he thought a set of lights would be a lot cheaper. It appears some people are upgrading their lights to LED version and so ebay had some for sale. A new full set of the LED ones went for £288 on ebay yesterday but standard lights are very much cheaper.
As with so many things, with a little investigation, alternatives can be found.
