Hi everyone, I am new to this board and want to show off some photos of my newest toy. My uncle Gennarro sold his house here in San Diego and moved back to his home town of Ponza Italy. I was fortunate enough to have the oportunity to purchase the car from him. The car is a 1976 model and its motivated by a 1.8 liter Fiat engine. He installed the fuel injection from a 1980 Fiat 124 Spyder. This helped gain some horsepower and made getting it smogged a little easier. The car has European bumpers and headlights. I really like the way the car looks but its performance has a lot to be desired. I'm currently repacing all the suspension bushings and shocks. Next I would like to add a turbo.

Does anyone have any info on what size turbo, where to get a manifold, and will the L-jettronic fuel injection be fine for 7-8 pounds of boost?

Thanks for your help
Aldo

I'm not a Monte expert but I think that it would be possible to fit the turbo and manifolds off an 8valve Integrale/Thema/Dedra..... or maybe better for the 1.8 lump the 'plumbing' from a Delta 1.6HF Turbo.
You don't have the same orientation/space problems as there is in the Beta to make this lot fit (except possible at the front of the engine?), but I can't imagine it would be without its problems.
I'm assuming you'd change out the pistons on the block..... don't want to be bolting a turbo onto a standard engine unless you're running pretty low boost ;)
Will or DJ could probably add to this substantially.......

Thanks for the response Hamish, if you are right my project just got a lot easier. Can someone else on this fourm confirm wether or not Integrale/Thema/Dedra 8 valve turbo exhaust manifold will fit my 76 1.8 DOHC in a scorpion. I just want to confirm this information before i go poking around european junkyards and have the parts shipped to California?

In a word no.

You'll have to get one made up - or do it yourself . .

Here's a photo of my original engine c/w manifold. It's a tight fit, but it does go in.

Sorry to go slightly off topic but what's that for a gearlever? Looks nice.

The shifter is off of an X 1/9. My uncle put it on because the factory plastic one was in bad shape.

Serra may still have a couple oif Scorpion turbo setups kicking around, I would find out for you but every time I deal with that Anthony, I get aggravated. :)

Well, if you ever do decide to find out, Will, I'd also be interested.

I never should have sold off the setup I had.

Why did you sell your turbo setup? Did you have some problems?

How many guys here have built a bottom end for a turbo application? My next car (which I have yet to acquire) will be a turbo / EFI combo. Im going to start with a 2L 8v and work from there.

Im used to Audi turbo applications where the stock bottom end of the inline-5 will handle 20PSI boost. Currently running this on my UrQuattro and it keeps a grin on my face.

What is out there for beefing up the bottom end of the Lancia 2L? Rods, forged pistons, etc...

I will probably be running a GT28 turbo

DJ, diid you notice the guy on ebay maybe about (guessing) six months ago that was selling turbo manifolds that were supposed to fit on a 124? I'll bet one of the guys over on Mira did. You might want to investigate that, I don't know how close it comes to fitting a Scorp. IIRC the turbo was high, duno what you'd do for a downpipe, he was somewhere around the $350 price point, I didn't bookmark it because I have no interest in turbos, but maybe should have.

Sean, it's all out there, most of it you won't need if you stick to low boost, for example the 124's run about 6-7lbs on a functionally stock bottom end with the IHI setup. But pistons, rods, head gaskets, valves, bearings, all available. Better and cheaper every day.

I read on line somewhere that you can not use a fiat 124 turbo manifold on a scorpion. The 124 spider is front engine rear wheel drive. The scorpion is mid engine with the a transversly mounted transmission. From what i read if you use a spider turbo manifold on a scorpion it places the turbo right where the scorpions cv boot and shaft will be.

This was the HIGH turbo type, (I think this pattern might be what the Integrale 8V uses but I haven't seen one in the round so can't say for sure) makes a loop and places the turbo up high near cylinder #4. You would need to fabricate a downpipe still, though, at a minimum.

Yes, AFAIK you are correct in that a stock Legend manifold fouls the Scorpion axle, we are on the same page there. I should probably have more emphasised the turbo was HIGH in the above post.
