Nice. That heat-shield behind the spare wheel; is that a standard Scorpion fitting? I've never seen one.

Hi Andrew,
The answer if yes if you are referring to the spare wheel/tire holder. This holder also doubles as a heat shield to help protect the tire from the heat generated by the engine. This type of holder came standard on all US spec Scorpions that I know of and bolts right in. If memory serves me correctly there is one rubber strap that is missing from this picture, as there should be three to hold the spare wheel in place.
Also there are two other heat shields that are missing from this particular car. One goes over the stock exhaust manifold. The other is a panel that fits across the entire rear shelf in the engine bay, this is the same shelf that the spare wheel sits on and is directly above the exhaust system. HTH.
Best regards,
DJ

That is a pretty nice looking Scorpion. The registry shows it being in the Netherlands so I'll get that info updated.
The "heat shield" is definitely a Scorpion-only thing but is actually just a tire carrier. It does also provide some heat protection, though, too. The actual heat shields on a Scorpion are on the manifold, similar to the Monte, and the aluminum shield that goes on the rear deck to protect from the catalytic converter. This car does not have that shield.
The attached picture shows the tire pan and the deck heat shield.
As Tim04 also mentioned there are three rubber straps that hold the tire in the pan. But this is also the same as all S1 Montes. The S2s used a bolt through the center of the tire and no metal tire carrier pan.

Hi DJ,
This is an interesting S2 Monte fact that I did not know about. No wonder the I've seen a lot of Monte's for sale on E-bay IT/Europe don't have the spare tire pan I'm used to seeing. Does the spare wheel sit on some kind of perch with a bolt going through it?
BTW: Nice looking engine bay! What brand are those headers and can they bolt on to the remaining original exhaust without modification?
Thanks in advance,
DJ

After re-reading my post, I should clarify one thing. Neither the S1 or S2 Monte had a steel tire pan like the Scorpion.
The spare just rests on top of the little perches that the Scorpion pan bolts onto. On the S1 it is held in place by the same 3-strap arrangement.
In the S2s, the rear transmission mount has a riser with a threaded section at the top into which the bolt is screwed.
As previously mentioned, Montes also just had a painted rear deck without any sort of heat shield. The VIN plate is mounted on the deck inside the engine compartment.
My exhaust is the Croft system sold by TMH. The header won't bolt onto the original exhaust.

DJ, gorgeous looking engine bay!! That alloy cambelt cover- a 1.8litre only thing right? So much nicer than the plastic thing. Why did they colour it yellow? Awful. (Or is yours a painted plastic one?)
I never knew that about the spare wheel carrier for the Scorpion. Wonder why the Monte never got it..? My previous Monte had a mis-shapen patch of sidewall on the spare from it resting on the cambox. Also the rear shelf heatshield- didn't know that existed either. That explains the lack of a VIN plate where I thought it should be on the eBay car... I thought it was suspicious at first.
BTW, your GC exhaust- any problems with it? And did you get it from the MH?
Andrew.
