View Full Version : Monte Bumper Availability

Last year I picked up the bumper molds from the same guy who has been making the replacement roof straps. He was no longer going to make bumpers. He told me at that time that these were the Series II bumpers and the molds had been originally owned by Scorpion Reproductions. There is no way I can verify this but have no reason to not believe that is the case.

Since I picked these up I have been looking for someone to do the fiberglass layup for me. It looks like I have finally found the guy. He does a few small boats and some of the motorcycle trike setups. He currently has the molds and is laying up the first set for me. Once this set is complete he can give me a final price and also how soon he can make them.

I have spoken with Jason who also has molds. It sounds like we both have a similar idea on what this is for both of us. For me, it is a part time deal that I hope to let it pay for the molds. I want to stay under the *hobby* clasification of the IRS so it can't (and likely won't) be a big deal.

I have three molds. Front and rear Monte bumpers and a one piece front nose band valence. The guy doing the layup uses a chopper gun. The good is that they are less expensive to make. The down side is they end up being a little thicker and therefore slightly heavier. It is my understanding that Jason's are hand layed and have those benefits. Jason also has a much larger offering of parts. It is not my intention to compete with Jason. Different parts, different fiberglass method, etc.

Right now I am waiting for the first set to come out of the molds. It is extremely cold here in Chicago and there won't be any fiberglass work for a week or two. Once these come out I will get the final price and schedule. Shortly after that I will place an order.

If you are interested, please contact me off-list. I will get photos and and a final price and let you know. If you are still interested we can work out the details at that time.
