Where can I find some written or on-line history/information in the English language on races like the Giro d' Italia (not the bicycle road race) and the Rally Monza. Both are IMSA races I presume? Thanks in advance!

Tim,

I'm not familiar with the Rally Monza, but the Giro d'Italia Automobilistica was similar to the Tour de France Auto; it consisted of a mix of rally stages and circuit races at various venues around Italy. I've never seen any decent info about it in English.

(I presume you're being facetious about IMSA, which was an American sanctioning body.)

Tim,

Type them into Google but put "rally" after Giro d' Italia.

Hope this helps

Pete, have you actually tried this and gotten any useful results? Because I've tried any number of search combinations (and on much better search engines than Google), and there really doesn't seem to be much out there.

It could have something to do with the fact that the last Giro d'Italia auto was held in 1980, and any online info is being overwhelmed by the fact that the bike race "Giro" continues to this day. But even on non-page-ranked search engines there's next to nothing, even in Italian.

try searching with :

Giro D'Italia Automobilistica

It pulls up quite alot - mostly snipets rather than definitive sites, but still a fair bit to go at.

Also try a youtube search with :

Giro D'Italia (then a manufacturer name) like "Giro D'Italia Lancia"

This is a good one

or this

Not often you saw those cars driven on the road !

Thanks guys! These You Tube videos are fantastic! In fact these are what piqued my curiosity in the Giro d' Italia. It is interesting to see the young Gilles Villeneuve and Walter Röhrl being interviewed in the 2nd Giro video.

Not sure about the IMSA connection either or if it is the same IMSA as we have here in North America. Below is an answer to question I had regarding the Alfa 75's race history, the gentleman from the Netherlands knows quite a lot. Also some "Giro" scale models on E-bay:

"Hello Tim,

No, Bob van der Sluis did not drive in the ETCC. Bob van der Sluis (Euro Magnum Racing) drives IMSA Alfa 75's, but modified (DTM Alfa 155 engine), in the Alfa Romeo Challenge, a Dutch racing class for clasic Alfa Romeo's.

Outside the ITC the Alfa 75 won with the Alfa 75 turbo IMSA twice the giro d'Italia: in 1988 1st (Patrese, Biasion, Siviero) and in 1989 1st (Francia, Cerrato, Cerri), 2nd and 4th.

Furthermore Alfa75's raced in the 1987 gr. A int touring car championship, but halfway the season Alfa Romeo decided to stop. In 1987 a Alfa 75 raced in the DTM, an 8th posion was the best result. Besides the overall winner of the ITC in 1988 (turbo), also Alfa 75's won ITC in 1989 (gr. A3 and N2) (turbo evo), in 1990 (gr. A2 and A3) (turbo evo), and in 1991 (N2) (3.0v6 america)."
