Hi,

I'm grappling with a very annoying brake rattle on my Dedra which I'm been trying to cure for about a year now! What happens is the front brakes rattle when I go over bumps / rough road. The rattling does not occur when I am applying the brakes - only when the brakes are not applied.
As I've just had it MOT'd, the car has new disks and new pads and these have not made any difference. The only thing left I can think of is the pins which go in the caliper carriers. When I looked at these they are not a tight fit in the holes. I tried packing with grease and it made a difference for a couple of days but then came back!
Chris Bastow at Betacar told me that there should be some sort of plastic insert in the holes for the pins but on my car all four pins just go straight into the drilled holes.

So my question is: Is it possible to get hold of these plastic inserts or will I have to buy 2 new carriers and if so - where from?

Thanks!

Just a suggestion for a backyard-fix, but why not consider cutting a couple of sections of appropriately sized tubing or wrapping the pins with PVC tape so they snug up? Ideally, this would take care of the vibration and still allow compliance in the fit. I think :)

Thanks for the suggestion Will! Although if I'm going to take it all off I'd rather get what's needed to fix it properly.

Well having priced up the carriers at a staggering £74 each I have decided to try your backyard fix! I don't mind spending money on the car but there's no way I'm going to spend £150 on a couple of bits of cast iron with 2 holes!
