I decided to change the low beam bulbs because they are pretty weak. I bought some Narva Plus 50 Xenon bulbs, definately brighter, although hard to say if they are 50% brighter. Changing the right one was ok, a previous owner has cut away the rubber surround so the bulb was accessible. Then I went to change the left one, the rubber hasn't been cut. I tried for about 30 minutes to remove or figure out how to remove it, it didn't budge :x

How do I get the rubber surround off without cutting it or removing the whole headlamp? (I assume it will need readjusting if I remove the whole thing)

The way to get the rubber surround off was to use more force, it then pulls off. I didn't want to try this at first because I didn't know if the rubber was attached which would have trashed it.

Now I can't get the rubber back on properly, it needs to be stretched over a ridge on the back of the headlamp. This is difficult because the gap around the ridge only allows my finger tips to fit in, which isn't far enough to push the rubber over the ridge (good for scraping knuckles though :x).

Obviously the person who designed this didn't test the design, otherwise they would have made something more practical :!:
