guys,

i have a very annoying whine in my front diff/transfer box, mostly noticeable when accelerating in 3rd gear and upwards, it makes a sound too (not as much) if i'm coasting downhill in neutral.

i need your advice, shall i replace it? can i rebuild it? or i just leave it as is?

any advice gratefully recieved

thx, Alex

Don't want to sound to negative - but gearbox whines don't normally ger better .. . although I might be tempted to try an oil change before going for the rebuild .. .

If it's a bearing going, the problem is it might further disintigrate, putting a whole lot of s**t into the box - which won't do it much good. It happened to me on my Monte - and you wouldn't beleive the amount of metal that came out with the oil when I striped it down !
