Does anyone know what size the VX Coupe petrol tank is supposed to be? The owners manual I have says 55 litres, the sales brochure I uploaded says 52 litres. Are the tanks different sizes in different countries?

http://www.lancisti.net/forum/modules.php?set_albumName=albun79&id=Page4&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&sid=baa25ec98a21c9777630c17ab04b604c&include=view_photo.php&PHPSESSID=d830736fa0d6ad43645925b25e0012aa

I ran out of petrol once because my gauge isn't accurate (reserve light flickers on over bumps but needle shows half full, reserve light is on when needle shows 1/3 full). The petrol can I used took 6.15 litres, I then drove to the petrol station and filled up, it took a further 42.99 litres, so 49.14 total. It was only 4.5km to the petrol station, so probably only 1/2 litre used, so this suggests to me the tank only holds 50 litres.

How do I make the link above wrap so the message isn't so wide?

Colin,
I've had an old VX tank out of a car and it held 52 litres.... but capacity is supposed to be 55 as you say.
Having said that, I remember filling up my old VX and getting 54 litres in it so 55 sounds right
You might be able to fix the fuel level sender in the petrol tank quite easily, just take it out and check the float isn't damaged/holed etc. It should move easily up and down, if it doesn't any HPE/Coupe/Spyder and possibly Sedan sender will do the job

My vx supplements here says 52 litres. (including 8 litre reserve apparently).

If anybody would find the vx supplement useful I can scan and upload it.

I still don't understand why my tank only took about 50 litres (2 litres worth of rust?!), I don't really want to run it dry again for testing, last time I ran out at the traffic lights (I ignored the reserve light for to long )

Hamish, where do I find the fuel sender? Can I just unscrew it and replace it? (assuming I can find an alternative) The most technical jobs I have done are changing the engine oil and supercharger oil. I don't have the experience or trust myself with anything more complicated.

Chris, what else is in the supplement?

Colin,
Nice 'n' easy this one  lift the carpets out of the boot/trunk wahetver you want to call it  In the middle of the floor you will see a plastic lid, lift it.
Underneath is the fuel sender into the top of the fuel tank. Disconnect the electrics, undo the nuts and the sender is ready to come out.
Assuming nothing is seized or broken, it's a 5 minute job

Thanks Hamish,

I think I will be capable of this :)

Hmm. I might have to do that sender replacement myself - dont have any huge moans about mine, only minor gripe is that the warning light comes on so early! Ive gotten over 50 miles on the reserve (sunday evening + wales = no petrol stations open!)

In the vx supplement is....

list of variations from normal 2000 models
dimensions
engine data - timing settings, valve clearances etc.
ancillaries info - not much given - just what type they are and measurements for them (e.g. dizzy advance amoutns, ignition coil resistances, spark plug gaps)
All the measurements you could ever want for the carb
A shedload of info on adjusting the auto choke and idle speed
info on how to refit supercharger
info on drivetrain (gear ratios, clutch dimensions)
suspension settings (camber, caster, toe in)
weight + performance figures
capacities (for some reason a dyno graph is on this page too)
location of the extra bits under the bonnet and what they are
info on carb base cooling, recycling of fuel vapors from blower
description of fueling system

And ive just found another shedload of stuff which seems as though it might be a full manual for the volumex version - ok. having looked through it is is basically a nicely printed version of the above with following extra bits

diagram of engine
diagram of how compressor works
front and rear suspension diagrams
everyday maintenance (as in the handbook basically)
pretty pictures showing camber etc. again, plus a helpful diagram of what a laden car is and what an unladen car is!

also got the beta haynes manual. doesnt cover the vx or ie though
