Hi, This problem I thought had been erradicated when I rebuilt the engine but has just re-appeared. What happens is the car runs great on warm-up then under heavy acceleration it starts to lose power almost until stalling but then if left to idle sorts itself. I am thinking that it is fuel starvation but the fuel pump is new as is filter and the injectors have been asnu cleaned. I havent set up the ignition advance properly yet so could it be this? Has anybody experienced this before?

Could it be hot air from the underhood coming into the carb (or carbs). ? That upsets greatly the jetting and robes power. That was my experience with twin carbs.

That could be the problem as at the moment the filter is directly above the cam box as I havent yet sorted an intake pipe. I also dropped the petrol tank out and emptied the contents to my horror! It had fuel yes but also lots of crap too, it had turned into a red sludge so I cant imagine this was helping the engine much. I have also changed all the fuel pipes, filter and pump cleaned out the tank and refilled with super unleaded. I plan to put a bottle of fuel system cleaner through it. So fingers crossed and once the air intake has been sorted I will be up to full power soon. I would strongly suggest everybody with a beta cleans their fuel tank out.

You are definetdley out of fuel, and that's the problem. Because hot air into the carb robs 10-20% power but never to almost stalling. In my country the petrol started to be mixed with bioethanol (from sugar cane) and when that mixed into the tank I had the same expierience with rubish in the tank. Watch out for rust in the pipeline.

The lazy way to clean the tank is to take off the rubber filler
hose inlet. Swab the bottom out w/terry cloth towels then
get a decent sized magnet on a rod & "vacumn" the tank
bottom. No substitute for dropping the tank & boiling it
out agreed but it does work . How many other cars have
the gas tank inlet right in your face fully accessible for this
half measure ?
