I think ive attracted enough posts to beta boyz for a week so ill bring some of my troubles over here!

To bring us up to date : to solve a few niggles - hot starting troubles, odd rich running and bad behaviour around town I decided to overhaul the carb. With it all cleaned up like new (manual choke coversion wasnt attached to the butterflies!) and seeming sound I put it back on. No start. various mixture settings but no joy.

I ended up taking the carb off again today and going through it again, the only difference being that I made an effort to properly check the float level. This has resulted in it starting and running but after about 10 seconds it starts struggling and misfires itself to death, like maybe the plugs are fouling. The mixture screws are set almost all the way out presently.

Any ideas? :)
Chris

Chris and I have spoken about this at some length  but being some 600 miles away doesn't help :!: and you can't 'see' everything via telephone
Surely there's an experienced VX owner or someone familar with the idiosyncracies of weber carbs local to Chris who has hands on experience of these hassles to lend a hand.... :?:
Somebody  :?:

Well, ive had a chat with a few carburettor companies round here and I think im going to buy a new one. They seem very knowledgable and can sell me a complete carb albiet maybe not with the right jets in it for £75. Opinions?
