Hi,
I have a question about the headlights of my '81 Zagato :
As one of the glasses is broken, I'm looking for a complete headlight (outer left side).
But I can't seem to find any with 2 bulbs in it, like mine.
Do I have non standard headlights ? They're BOSCH.
All the ones I've bumped into are SIEM and only have 1 bulb.
Any alternatives ?
Thanks,
Michael.

Are you referring to US-style sealed-beam headlights (where the reflector, lens and bulb for each lamp are replaced together as a single, integrated unit) or European-style component lamps (where the lens and reflector are permanent fixtures and the bulb can be replaced separately)? I am confused because you call your car a Zagato (the US-market name for what was called a Beta spider everywhere else), but what you describe seems more like Euro-type lights.
???
Either way, the headlight units are common types, nothing terribly special. You may be able to adapt units spec'd for an entirely different car. Sealed-beam units for the US are the typical 5-3/4" units available in any auto-parts store. Component lamps for the rest of the world are much the same as, say, '80s BMWs and other round quad-lamp setups of that era. Some in the US have opted to retrofit generic Hella or Cibie Euro-spec units in place of our typically-awful stock sealed beams. Personally, I've always fancied the idea of upgrading to the ellipsoid/projector units from a late-model BMW E30 ('80s-era 2nd-gen. 3-series), which combine that modern type of lens with replaceable bulbs in a 5.75" lens housing that shouldn't be too difficult to adapt to our Betas, in theory at least (but see my .sig below ;) )...

With respect to SubG, these don't sound anything like standard 5-3/4 sealed beams--in fact, they don't sound like sealed beams at all. These sound like European lows (outers)with a central H1 lamp and a separate parking lamp (2nd "bulb") angled towards the outer edge; my S1 Fulvia runs these.
Although they typically deal with pre-Beta cars, Omicron should be able to help with these (RHD or LHD, albeit at $2 per GBP at present). You can also find these at Daniel Stern Lighting http://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html. Stern handles both the conventional Cibie H1 5-3/4 and the latest Cibie CSR H1 5-3/4, either of which is available with parking lamp (but only for LHD cars).

Hi,
well it is certainly a US Zagato (big bumpers, side lights, fuel injection, ...) which has been imported back into Europe in the 90's.
Probably the lights had to be adapted, because in Belgium parking lights are necessary for our annual 'MOT'.
European spiders have them in the bumpers.
I'll check with Omicron.
Thanks,
Michael.
