Quick question from a newbie...does lancisti have a gallery page? I scanned right through the menu options I could find and couldn't see anything.....if there is one, where do I find it? ...thanks!

Yes, there was one but it disappeared some time ago due to server issues I believe. It's supposed to be returning after the next system upgrade. I'm hoping that all the images have been retained.

This is an ongoing issue that has me feeling constant shame. :'(

I WILL have the Gallery back sometime soon. It's just a matter of finding the time in my life to spend getting it done.

Except for one nice (but all too short) fishing trip, I haven't really had a summer so far this year. But, hopefully, things will be better in another week or two so I can focus on such things.

And yes, ALL of the thousands of old Gallery pictures have been salvaged and will be restored.

In the mean time, you can always still attach photos to messages in the forums.

Thanks to all for their patience.

Thanks DJ, that's a relief.

Be nice to see pics but that's minuscule as opposed to you
keeping this forum up & running . Lanciana is long dead.
ALC, well? Heartfelt thanks for what you do. I am Lancia
[Beta] literate . Would NOT have clue one how to run a
server + this forum . Thank you !

I'd echo all the thanks to DJ for keeping this forum going. The gallery would be great whenever its possible, but, DJ, you shouldn't feel any shame whatsoever. It's a lot of selfless effort simply to maintain this great resource at its current level.

But, davidb, Lanciana is back from the dead. As of the issue that just came out, it has a new editor, Donald Osborne, who writes for Sports Car Market and the New York Times, among others (in other words, a real writer). And it has a new, all-color look that resembles an actual magazine (shameless plug). If you're an ALC member, you'll already have received the new issue. If you're not a member, e-mail Donald or the ALC membership secretary (both e-mail addresses on the ALC web site), and they should be happy to send you a copy.

I re-read my post and I need to make a very serious correction: Lanciana is back, but it was never dead.

Unlike a forum like this, which 'publishes' whenever someone posts a message, printed periodicals only exist if someone writes an article of some substance and length, someone edits it, someone lays out the pages, and someone arranges (and pays) to have it printed and mailed.

Lanciana does have a new look and a new editor, but the fact is that it has been kept alive by previous editors, including the immediate past editor, John Keppleman, who--like DJ with this forum--gave his time and energy to keep it going. And I owe John an apology for coming off as though I was denigrating those efforts.

Thank you, 1.6HF (who's the savvy fellow hiding behind that avatar??) I've been in the ALC long enough to see a couple of editors go ballistic over criticisms of Lanciana, much less rumors of its demise. Not me. I will say that I have little patience though for critics who don't contribute to it. Unlike the British rag (and German too), the Journal, Lanciana editor is not paid. And for whatever reason doubtless including excellent forums like this very little is submitted to Lanciana by its membership. No responses, few lettters to the editor almost ever. Beating the bushes to drum up copy and pictures is hard and humiliating. I have even been told by one very pretentious member that he was too "cool to be interviewed for Lanciana." Ouch. I had created the interviews because I knew there were cool people in the club, interesting people, who wernt submitting. There was a time when the magazine was a forum for publically advancing solutions to mechanical problems, Lancia racing brags, travel reports. Very rare now. Take a look at the current very nice issue. Most of the copy is either historic reprint, foreign stuff, or pieces written by ALC officers. That in spite of our having just finished two reunions and mpost of the season of wrenching and driving. It's a thankless job as the truism goes. Speaking to no one in particular: If you feel critical of Lanciana remember the ALC is a volunteer club. It's only as entertainiing and lively as the folks in it. You have to do something about it yourself.

John, my 'shameless plug' comment in an earlier post is due to the fact that I'm the guy who redesigned Lanciana, working with Donald Osborne, the new editor. I proposed both changing the design and going all color, and got support for both.

You're right about the articles in the new issue--to a great extent Donald had to work with what he'd inherited in the pipeline or what he could grab from elsewhere. As you correctly point out, the technical articles, the travel reports, indeed all the copy has to come from someone sitting down and writing it. Some of the technical discussion on this forum, if accompanied by even half-decent pictures, would make great articles. The 'photo essays' from Retromobile and from the Bonfanti Museum were simply the result of someone submitting the photos (actually, I had to drag some of them out of the woodwork; and don't get me started on how much Photoshop work was required to clean some of them up).

In any case, I do hope it's the start of a new era for the journal. The all-color layout offers some options never before available.

Ah, Ed. Yes, now I recognize your name from the credits in the magazine. Impressive work. Hats off to you for the nice layout and color, and if you are scouting around for material you should get credit for that too. That, above all is what burned me out. The magazine looks very good, certainly more professional than it ever has, I would say. Eventually some things which are still coming to me will come to you and Don. I'm thinking of Lancia Rundschau, the German club magazine and also the occasional complimentary book about Lancia sent to me to teview. I have two now which I've recieved recently, one on the Stratos and one of the Integrale, both of which I will send you reviews of. We don't get the Journal as a freebee but the Lancia Rundschau is a nice effort, enjoyable to look at even if you don't read german. Congratulations on a great first issue. Let me know if I can be useful covering something up here in the Northwest.

John, thanks for the kind words. I'm entirely fine with Donald getting all the editorial credit--he deserves it all. Hopefully, his contacts and travels for Sports Car Market, &c. will make it easier for him to get editorial material; you're right--hunting the material's the toughest part. My job's easy; I'm just the digital taxidermist.

I'm sure that Donald will take you up on your offer regarding anything in your end of the world. Any time you want to get rid of a freebie Lancia book, though, don't bother with Donald; you can send those directly to me...

And to those not taking part in this conversation, articles documenting restorations or mods (especially ones with really pristine engine bays, DJ), articles about road trips or rallys, articles about technical mods (Will H?) would be gratefully received by the editor. Get your name/car in print for posterity. In living color.
