View Full Version : What springs to fit?

Hi!
Becouse previous owner of my '90 16V with 8V cat. engine ruined its springs (by cutting them) I must buy new set. I have 3 options:
a) OEM replacement,
b) 30mm lowering springs (OMP),
c) 40mm lowering springs (Lejsofors, Eibach).
I want to fit 215/45-17 tyres - maybe it's stupid idea but I have free set of tyres. Next ones should be 215/40-17.
What springs should I choose?
Thanks in advance :D

I'd use the Eibach springs which are initially meant for the Evo. They'll fit in combination with 8v cat/16v dampers, are very progressive and don't lower too much (30 mm). They're really good.

As Base says use the Eibach springs - make sure they are the original Final Edition Evo springs though (Eibach also offer another type which lower the car too much).

How can I make sure? Any part number or other method.
On polish Eibach dealer site I found this (translated from polish of course  ):
"Lancia Delta 831 ABO Intrgrale Evo III 8V, 16V front: EW-4909001; rear: EW-4909002-HA Lowering: 30mm ---- Catalogue Number: 4909.140"
Is that it?

The FIAT part numbers for the final edition springs are 95525567 (fronts) and 95525568. You will find it is cheaper to buy them from FIAT.

Surely not cheaper than you £134 though barry??? that sounded like a bargain to me...

The price now is £172.26 + VAT I'm afraid.

I've got price of 141GBP (including 22% VAT) from Eibach distributor in Poland. I'll get a 15% discount (my friend is dealing with them a lot). But I'll also check FIAT dealership.
BTW Any comment on this 215/45-17 idea? Is it that stupid or maybe feasible?

Montrala - 215/45-17 tyres would raise your gearing too much - the ideal size is 225/35-17.

It's just for a start. I must finish this set of Uniroyal Rainsport 1 (they are too small for Evo V and this is just waste of money not to use them) - next one will be correct - 215/40-17 or 225/35-17.
I checked prat numbers, thay you were so kind to post. Fiat Auto Poland doesn't have them (never had) and will not import in finite time :x
Friend of mine (hardcore Alfisti  ) is looking if he can get them from Milan. If not, I'll order Eibach 4909.140.

I must correct myself. Fiat Auto Poland can import FE springs for me, but no sooner than 3 weeks. 270GBP (incl VAT). :(
Final price for Eibach 4909.140 springs is 129GBP (incl VAT), but avaiability is still unknown.
I'm waiting for confirmation of avaiability and price from Fiat dealership in Milan (Italy), but I strongly suspect that Eibach is best solution (considering price).

You could buy the final edition springs from us - I guess the postage to Poland would be about £30.00 and we would not have to charge the VAT as Poland is outside the EEC.

How much and why that much? :D
And how fast can I get them?

Montrala - I've just checked the postal charges and the cost for 4 springs would be £56.75 - delivery time 3 days.
Why so much? - that's what it costs!
The cost of the springs is the FIAT price - I can't control that either!
If you want a spring that works well on your car then they are the best option.

A few posts ago you mentioned "The price now is £172.26 + VAT I'm afraid", but it was never clearly stated "this is price for Fiat OEM FE springs". That's why I ask. Is that price for OEM FE springs?
I don't complain about shipping cost - I know that shipping for UK to Poland is more expesive that from USA to Poland 8O And Parcelforce already lost one of my packages, and Euro48 is already late with another
Also I want to make clear - are Eibach 4909.140 worth bothering or only OEM FE springs? Or, are they the same? I've already get confused 8O

The Eibach lowered spring was fitted on the Evo Final Edition, so its both OE and direct from Eibach...

Montrala - the price I quoted was for the FIAT FE springs which are made by Eibach. The other Eibach springs you mention do IMO lower the car too much - unless you are on a billiard table smooth surface you will thrown off line at every undulation because of bump stop contact.

OK Bazza. Now I understand. Roads in Poland are rather bumpy, harsh and with "rails" made by heavy tucks - so I would prefer springs that can deal with this kind of roads. If my Italian source fail and/or be too expesive I'll let you know.
Thanks!

The kit he mentions (4909.140) is the FE kit. The kit that lowers too much is the 4901.140 kit.
So OEM FE = 4909.140

But they are still quite virtual. There is partnumber, there is price, but there are no springs  Distributor is trying to get answer from Eibach if they are avaiable.

Availability might be a problem as Eibach produces these springs in batches, so if a batch runs out, you'll have to wait till there are enough orders to justify the start of another batch.

PS. Last time I heard, Eibach was out of FE springs... :(

Eibach was kind enought to made them  They get them out of production just before scheduled transport to Polish distributor. And they managed to put them in this delivery, so I'll get them early next week :D
All signs on sky and earth shows, that I'll drive my Grale in 7-10 days from now :D My Evo V will go for complete body/interior/mechanical overhaul then.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!
My Eibach FE springs (4909.140) were sent to me from Eibach distributor yesterday. With 17% discount (blessed personal entanglements  ) it costed me 105GBP + 22% VAT (yes, we've got taxes here  ). Car was already eqipped with Bilstein Sport shocks (inverted type inserts), so I just serviced them (new oil, gas and seals). Car will be on the road next week 8) Hopefully
