hi, I'm not to good on mechanical stuff. I recently had a quote on my bottom end that needed some work. The big end shell caps?? where put in the wrong way round and the pistons were worn. The quote was £600 . Can anyone tell me if this is an ok price should I look around. He said he would polish the crank ect, I haven't a clue what you would normally pay for this type of work, regards Paul.

It depends on the parts cost.
Are they supplying new pistons, carrying out a rebore, and supplying big end shell bearings? (And main bearings, ask them!). If thats the case, then the price isnt bad  , especially if they are removing the engine as well
If they are doing a rebore, will they be flex honing the bore afterwards. If they seem knowedgable on felx honing then thats good. If you get a blank face thats bad! :?
Flex honing is a procedure that impacts the bore wall with lots of small balls conntected to a drill shaft. Streets ahead of normal reconditioning bore honing that grinds away at the bore with a stone tool

S hi thanks for your info. This is what i needed to know yes they are carring out all that you said, so £600 isn't too bad, better start saving the penny's. I'll ask about flex honing, thanks again, paul.
