On a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it to remove the body on a GT? And also, has anyone here done it?

59Touring1096,
I haven't any direct experience or information on your question, but there is an on-going restoration thread on a Flaminia Zagato on the Alfa Bulletin Board, with a number of pictures, here:

This may be of no help to you, as Zagato's construction methods were -- I believe -- different from Touring's. But it's kinda interesting in it's own right, I think.

Hello,
I have thought long and hard about taking the body off my 63 Touring GT but I think I would end up doing more harm than good. The body is very straight with only a few dings and dents to fix but its how brittle the aluminium has gotten with age that worries me.
I will definitely be cutting the rockers off (very carefully) because the inner rockers are rotted and need replacing.
Other than that, the other bad spot is where the front wheel flare is wrapped around the steel frame. The wire frame has rusted and is taking the aluminium with it.
Of course any removal of the aluminium will require either gas welding or Tig to re-attach it and I need to start practicing now to do it right as it is quite difficult to do well.
Check out "lancianews.com" to see great pics of a GT convertible that has had its body removed.
Its in German under Flaminia restoration 1,2 and 3.
