I thought i would post this for anyone considering an alternator upgrade.
I had added fans and lights to the 79 LBZ and did not feel that continous running of the A/C system could be supported by the stock 55 amp Bosch unit.
The local auto electric repair center compared the Bosch unit to some others and found that the industrial alternators used on UPS trucks was almost a perfect match. They are 110 amp,14 volt. They were double footed with a 3 wire hookup, B+, exciter and ground. The Bosch pulley fits as well. Physically the unit is only slightly larger than the Bosch. The only draw back were the holes in the feet which were too small for the stock rubber mounts and too large for the mounting bolt. Having a lathe I made up some sleeved spacers which fit in the holes and took up the clearence between the feet and the mount. The rear foot has the sliding sleeve for final clearance take up. I also used a 5" 5/16 bolt to replace the stock which was not quite long enought.
The alternator is a Prestolite Indiel. Numbers 352 144 90 D
and AV128 14V 110 A This unit was manufactured by San Luis Industrial of Argentina.
Just to repeat , you need, at minimum, to sleeve the mounting holes. Spacing can be handeled with washers but if you are making or having made sleves then spacers should be incorporated . Very easy to install that way.

Post Script.. I had the chance to do some night driving and the head lights and dash lights seem to be brighter.. That goofy problem of the ampmeter only working when the dash got warm has gone away also.
