As per the subject which would you look for and why ?, also has anyone managed to fit a child seat in the back of a fulvia ?

1,6 HF

the most practical answer is an S2 or S3 1.3 (I've got to assume practicality is an issue if you're asking about a car seat)

Silly question but why is a HF less pratical than an S2 or S3 1.3 ?

1.3 is the more pleasant drive and cheaper to buy and run 1.6 is probably the best sunny day only car

I think the answer to the car seat question depends on what kind (size) of car seat.

The largish ones intended for babies may be a bit tight. My Series 1 Fulvia has about 16-17" clearance between the rear seat back and the front seats. You might squeeze an additional inch or so if you're willing to run the front seats all the way forward. Most of the baby carriers I see today are pretty large.

However, the smaller booster seats I see used for toddlers should work without much problem.

In either case, you'll probably need to fit seat belts to the back (if my S1 is representative), but this shouldn't be too difficult.

If you're talking about a child carrier located in the front passenger seat, I don't see any problem. I'm 6'3" and fit comfortably anywhere in the front of the car (the back seat is another matter), so whatever child seat you prefer should be okay.

More generally, I encourage you to go for it. Being able to include children in activities that you enjoy (i.e. sporting drives) is always a good thing. My kids (now fully grown) still have fond memories of expeditions and adventures in my Austin Healey 3000 (the back seat of which makes the Fulvia's look quite large).

Many thianks, I grew up being driven around in various fulvias and was suprised when smone mentioned difficulty size wise of fitting a child seat in, bear in mind there was 2 adults and 3 children in the car !.
Now years later I want to put my own children through the joy of fighting for the middle seat as it had more leg room, but it appears that it is difficult to find a good lancia which has not already been snapped up by someone else, what has caused this (to me anyway) sudden rush for everyone to want a fulvia? anyways looking for a very good/good condidtion 1.3 or 1600 preferably rhd, dont care what year as to me they were all good
Based in Ireland so I cant waste time going back and fwd need to find that one elusive car and then drive it!.

incidentally ever thought about a 2000hf instead just the ticket more space, big boot, elegant, smooth fast torquey engine and can still be chucked around with surprising ease

My advice would be to buy the best one you can afford. Don't turn down a really nice 1300 to stretch to a less good 1600.
