I have got a 2000ie hpe, and the electrics are worse than you can imagine, and gettin the fuel injection/electric side to work is just an impossible task, with the amount of "repairs" it's had in its sorry life.

Just wondered whether converting to carbs is possible and reasonably simple to do ???

I was thinking, different dizzy, coil, manifold and carb. is it that simple or am i missing something ::)

Any1 already done this and got some good tips ???

Shouldn't need to change the distributor, just rip off all the FI stuff, bolt on a carb intake and carb, adjust and go. You'll need to swap out the fuel pump for a lower pressur one and make other minor mods, but i is easy to swap FI to carb and it really opens up the engine bay for access! I have done FI to dual DCOE's, piece of cake! ;D If you go to carbs, you really should do dual's for the torque and of course, the cool sound of them sucking in air at full throttle! ;D
Personally, I would do what it took to properly repair the FI system, but that's just me, the older I get, and the more rods, screws and bone cubes from other people they stick in my spine, the more I lean towards the mostly trouble free FI over constant need to adjust for different seasons carbs.......and I used to be a hard core carb man, then I figured out FI systems and my narrow minded opinion has changed! ;)

personally i'd say that the injected 2 litre is just about the nicest combination you can get on a beta I'd just get it sorted it's easy to blame the injection system for all ills you'll probably change to carbs then find it isn't!

I agree and if the electrics of your car are wonky, no big deal since the FI system resides in its own self-contained harness and only interfaces through the dual relay (black box ner fender wall) which is itself frequently the culprit.

The actual fuel injection system seems to be fine, but the ignition system is undescribable :'(.

I just feel turning to carbs will simplify the system, and will mean taking various electrical problems out of the car.

Just some of the problems to name :-
constant supply to wiper motor.
Engine turning over when it feels like.
Ignition staying on even with keys out of ignition.
Bodged wiring.
Wires cut in dashboard.
Dashboard lights working and then not.
Ignition amplifier earth getting hot and then not.
Wire from battery to ignition switch, getting warm, now not.

Not one single problem you described has anything what so ever to do with any of the FI wiring, it is a totally seperate system.

Sounds like you have PO hacking problems as well as an ignition switch shorting problem

I would suggest just picking up a factory wiring manual, not the little fold out diagram one I have seen peoplew claim to be the wiring diagram, but and actual Lancia wiring "manual", it has all the circuts layed out in common layman terms and color coded schematics of individual circuts layed out page by page with a nice color fold out picture of the cut out car showing where all the harnesses lay in the car and where all the terminal blocks are and they are even numbered for easy indentifying. It is color coded and I have found on 81 and 82 model years, pretty accurate. Then just sit down and go through each circut one by one till they are all connected properly and working as designed. Yea, it will be time consuming, but what else are you to do on your days off??

You may even want to pick up a used wiring harnes from someone like me who may have a few laying around just in case....I will have to look thru my boxes of stuff, and I have this 82 I am stripping, most of the wiring is still completely intact, but I haven't removed it yet from the car and that ain't easy if you plan to re-use it! ;)

If you were closer, I would offer to help, but I can not afford the plane ticket over the pond much less the lodging expenses! LOL
