Does anyone have an idea where I can locate a new oil pump for my '82 Zagato?
Thanks in advance,

I'm building a 2 liter (FIAT Spider block) for my Scorpion and just got a new Marelli oil pump from Bruce's Parts Bin. You just have to use the pickup from the Lancia engine.
International Auto Parts and Vick's Motorsports also list the pumps.
Bruce's - www.fiatparts.com
IAP - www.international-auto.com
Vick's - www.vickauto.com

Wrong! The FIAT 2.0L pump is a different size (gears, housing and pickup) than the Beta version of the same engine! The FIAT pump can be used in a Scorpion/Monte, but the Beta pump requires a lot more work.
Don't have a good source for a new one, can you rebuild the one you have?? Usually, it is just the 'end float' that becomes too large on an old pump. This can be easily reduced by machining (read: filed) the bottom of the pump housing to reduce the end clearance.

Very interesting. There's something I've never heard. I'm glad you were here to clarify, John.
What is it that's so different? Is the mount the same but just the pump differently configured? No way to fit a FIAT pump?
You say the 2 liter Monte can use the FIAT pump but not the 2 liter Beta? That just doesn't make much sense. Not that I'm arguing. I don't have the experience with them that you obviously do. But it is damn curious...
As for Dave's question/problem, I'd suggest checking with either Omicron, Betacar, or Evo Engineering, all in the UK. The links to all can be found in the Lancisti weblinks area.

Guys,
Bayless had the oil pump on the shelf.
Thanks for the input.

Fiat 131 pump is the same length as the Euro Monte - but has a different pick-up (easily changable - two M6 bolts) and pressure relief spring (again dead easy to swap over). Done it myself a few years back.
All the Beta's used a slightly shorter pump - all this according to Guy Croft's book (the Volumex definetly is 'cos I stripped one once .. ).
I like the idea of shortening the housing slightly - but "filling" seems a little crude - I'd be tempted to use wet and dry on a sheet of glass to keep it all nice and flat !
Guy was floating the idea around about having some new pumps made up - but I think he was having problems justifying numbers.

.. . one other thing I did think about once .. . if it is the splines which eventually go on the pumps, why not replace them with a slot drive ? This could be machined a little further down the shaft - just below where the existing shaft narrows slightly.
You'd then need to pin or otherwise fix a suitable corrsponding slot into the bottom of the drive gear - but this would cure the problems of splines wearing out for ever !

Wallace,
I agree that filing is a 'crude' way of performing the task, but the shaft that the non-driven gear rides on protrudes below the face of the pump. You *could* press the shaft out, but I would be more worried with getting it back in straight. If you have a GOOD, CLEAN large bastard file, AND TAKE YOUR TIME, the result will work fine.
The Beta pump uses shorter (~10mm?) gears than the FIAT or Monte/Scorp (and the actual pump body is shorter by the same) which would lead me to believe that the Beta would pump less oil than the FIAT (though Guy Croft says some pump more - must be the relief valve setting).
I believe (in the US anyway) the FIAT 2.0L pump (used in 124s/131s) is more readily available new, but as one other Scorpion owner would attest to, verify the new pump is within specs prior to installation!!

I used a NEW pump from a reputable Vendor for my Scorpion 2 liter and it would not prime BECAUSE it was soooooo cheaply machined it would not prime. The shaft wabble was unbeleivable, I learned my leason,,,measure that new pump BEFORE you install it. And dont just think because a good old FIAT or LANCIA pump has a 100,000 miles on it that it is no good, I found some real nice pumps in my trash bin :)

I havew the Zagato 2L pump you need- actually a beta coupe 2L pump - same part #.
Call if you still need: (631) 367-6506

PS> usually the gears that wear- not the shaft.
