Just thought id share this with everyone. The drivers side door card on my 85 hpe vx was water damaged since ive had the car and is completely warped. As i am selling the car, i finally decided it was time to do something about it, as selling it with the door card off seems to be a dodgy proposition.
So with the removed door card I removed all the staples holding down the trim to the card, then carefully pulled the card away, easing the fabric away where it was glued to the original door card and pulling the card away at the top where the metal trim was punched into the card. I then used the old card as a template to create a new card out of a sheet of 4 by 2 3mm hardboard (all of 99p!) and doing a bit of fill in the blanks were the old card had disentegrated - mostly on the bottom edge of mine so it was easy. Then fitted in new clips to hold the card to the door frame - the original clips were broken long ago in removal. The new clips arent a perfect fit, but certainly good enough. I then stapled the new card back on to the trim. And thats where im at now :) the only concern left is that i havent been able to secure the card to the metal trim at the top edge - what I tried was bending the teeth straight up (youll see what i mean if you try it) on the metal part and hammering the card onto it - no luck. So im going to try a bit of the traditional duck tape and the like. Looking good at the moment, will hopefully post a picture of the finished result this evening.

Time taken : about 4 or 5 hours - most of it in making up the new card
Cost : £1.99 - sheet of hardboard and some trim clips.

Hope its useful to someone!
