August 5th, Pocono Raceway in PA, SCCA National Race 1.

Well we qualified first in class in the yellow Lancia Scorpion. We had a good close race. I lead for a while. The Porsche 914 of Les Handley lead. I lead. He lead. In the end I finished 2nd just one second behind the Porsche. Good close race - fun.

Sunday, Race 2.

Well we qualified first in class again. However the Porsche was qualified 4th behind an Acura Integra and a Honda CRX. The race started well enough with the Honda CRX passing for the lead momentarily a couple times over the next few laps. Funniest damm thing though, he'd drive by then hit the rev limiter. Then we'd drive passed him as he's going ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-baa.

Unlike the Honda, I would just let it keep going. We were hitting 8400 RPM in 5th gear. Out of the power band and it was screaming.

Then around lap 5 a full course yellow came out. The Porsche passed the CRX under full course yellow -- a big no no. Which put him right behind me on the restart.

I managed to keep him behind me going into turn 1 but as soon as we came to the back straight he passed me. Shortly there after he got a bad run out of the chicane. I was coming up quickly on the left exiting the corner and he moved left. I don't know if he saw me or not, regardless I rubbed the concrete wall rather hard. Hard enough that there were paint chips from the wall that were wedged in between the rim and the bead of the tire. There was minor damage to both fiberglass flares and the front fender was wrinkled at the top of the wheel arch. But, hey this car is tough ! We kept right with him.

Gotta tell you it's a little unsettling to scrape the wall like that and wonder how long before the tires goes flat as we charge towards turn one at 120MPH +

We'll the tires never did go flat.... As the laps continued on I passed him back and he passed me back. The race ended with him 1 car length ahead.

Ahhh, but remember that pass under yellow that got him behind me in the first place. We'll he was in trouble for that. He was moved back to third place which made me First.

The Porsche set a new track record this weekend. However, the Lancia set a new track record faster than his. Ha Ha.

How about that the Lancia Scorpion now holds the track record at Pocono !!!!

The car held up great ! We were flying and had a lot of fun.

We have also locked up first place in the SCCA's NorthEast division for the FP class.

Oh, righteous video, way to ignore those shift lights! :)

That wall that comes around again at the end of the video looks like it could do a nice job on a scorp, is that the one you got pushed into? Sorry about that.

I'd like to check out you and your car, I heard about it from Shaun when you were putting it together but I'd like to see the finished product. Would have driven to Pocono, if you are scheduled to race agian in the NE, maybe give a shout out beforehand?

Nice driving BTW.

Would love to have some (lots) advance notice when you are near PA again. I'm unlikely to go to the track otherwise but would enjoy seeing you race the Scorpion. Joe
