HELP!!!

I'm really struggling to find a Rear exhaust section for a VX Coupe - I understand it's the same as the 2000ie.
Has anyone bought one of these recently and if so where from? I've tried Betacar, Auto-Integrale, Tanc Barratt, Richard Thorne and Omicron - Noe of these have got one, I'[m not really bothered if it's new or used as long as it's not full of holes. Is there anyone I've missed???

Have you tried any local tyre and exhaust depots? Try a few, it may be a long shot but you never know.

If you do go down this route they will probably ask you to take it down to them so that they can have a look at it or match it, which is a legitimate request, but whatever you do don't let them take the old one off before you physically see the replacement, tell them that before they put it on the ramp. This is a favourite trick so that you don't/can't go somewhere else for the part.

Other than that it's either a stainless steel system manufacturer or it might be worth buying a few classic car magazines and looking through the ads for a specialist exhaust manufacturer. I vaguely remember a feature on one manufacturer who claimed to be able to make any exhaust for any car, which I would have thought any exhaust manufacturer could do. Unfortunately I've just moved house so my classic car magazines are "somewhere". If I find the relevant magazine I'll post the info for you, but don't hold your breath.

Hope this helps

Hello Ricky,
The exhaust people will look for "the numbers" (part code) on the silencers. They can then check availability even though Betas are no longer in their catalogues.
I just took a photo of the tail and mid section that came off my Trevi. These items are not what you need (mid has an extra silencer and tail is slightly longer) but would give you an idea of what to look for on yours. Only trouble is I can't find the USB cable for my camera.

Hello all,
It would be great if we could collect the exhaust part codes (several manufacturers) so please check yours if poss and post 'em up here.
I'll get the Trevi ones on tomorrow by hook or by crook.

I've tried my local Mr Clutch and Kwik Fit and although happy to help there was no luck with either. I took the rear box off earlier this evening and it looks like the previous owner had someone weld the pipework from a Beta IE/VX Rear Box onto a generic stainless silencer at some point, so there isn't a part number on it that I can get (Thanks for the suggestion though Leo) I know that "Descam" used to make a Beta silencer as I had one of these on my old VX but I've been told that their factory has now closed down.

If anyone can come up with a part number from their exhaust I can ring round some of the local exhaust places - At the moment I may have to go with "plan B" which is to get the existing box repaired by a welder I know as it's the pipe bit rather than the silencer "box" that has rusted.

Ricky. since I have bought muffler bits from them I emailed fiatplus in Santa Cruz, California, to ask if they have the rear muffler for an '81 Beta. They have it and the info is (part # and price) 82329010 $124.00. Since the VX was not imported here I would confirm that they are the same, of course, before ordering. My experience with them (the owner is Chris Obert) has been very good. Their email is fiatplus@aol.com.

Rear coupe ie silencer Bosal 170 237, mid section Bosal 280 235, think ANSA and Walkers still supply but not sure who are their retailers.

I've just changed my mid and rear sections for some second hands parts from a na 2L, fitted well and better note(always important) On the original exhaust the front muffler was damaged on some post fixing and eventually I will cut it out and weld in some straight pipe.

So, hope that helps and I'm sure new exhausts are still available even for the older coupes? As a last resort try classic auto behmann, they list the rear section(coupe/spyder 1980+) at 80€ + carrier

I hate removing rusty old exhausts!

Hi,

When I was looking for exhaust system for my coupe, I found this:
http://www.assomarmitte.com/inglese/serie.html
You can find Beta in their online catalog. I do not know if it helps, but it is good to see that some shop still making bits for Beta.

The 82369088 is the "normal" silencer with bevelled end, and the 82377063 is with straight end.

At the end I bought a BOSAL piece at a local parts shop (the last one)...

Burton's do kits (for want od a better term) of exhaust bits, pipes, bends, boxes, reducers etc all with the oversize clamp bit on the ends so you can build one up with just a hacksaw - no welding !!

They even do them in stainless . .

Try Don Pembleton in Huthwaite he has a std VX Coupe system as a pattern to make a stainless system or mild steel if you so wished or any part thereof. It is the labour not the cost of the metal that is the expensive bit. He does an excellent job and if you want a rear box it should fit like a glove no problems. He advertises in most of the classic car mags. I could even dig out his number for you. A few Beta VX owners have used him and they have all been very pleased with what they have received.

I have a back box (correct for VX - came from a VX coupe) sat in my loft, second hand so no guarantee that the internals are perfect but the pipework seems A1 condition - PM or email if interested - it's free to a good home.
