Well, Bridget, my 82 Zagato, has been in the body shop for two months now getting a full makeover. It was only supposed to take two weeks he said, but the rust kept turning up, and he could not have any rust on this car! :o . After weeks of rust-busting, cutting out and welding in fresh metal, sanding everything smooth, it was finally time for the paint booth. Well, wouldn't you know that the paint didn't cooperate. So he painted a second time; still had problems. Enter the paint rep who determines that the wrong reducer was supplied. So Bridget gets a third paint job which equals around 24 coats of color and clear total. It is so thick that there is no clearance between the doors and the front fenders. So now my guy has to do some adjusting so the doors can open without rubbing. ::) I have to admit that it looks great, a little warmer silver than she had before, and the shiniest coat that I have ever seen. I just hope that I can get her back before the warm weather is gone!

I would be wary if my car had more thant 3 (standard) or 6 (showroom) coates, any heavier than that and the paint will fall off eventually because it is too heavy. Paint is like skin the more you have the heavier it gets. This is according to my Glasurit paint rep.

You know, being a photographer I have to say that I am ashamed that I did not take a single photo of the work in progress. You better believe that I will be taking some when she is completed. Just waiting for everything to be reassembled (this guy stripped her pretty bare). :P Also, he told me that the paint thickness was within the limit of 12 mil...when he is finished buffing, it should be around 10 mil., so he said. I am hoping to get her back next week. I will let you know if the paint blows off on my way home! ::)

Well, it seems that Guber, the guy who painted my car, mixed up some of the wiring on the car when he reassembled everything(or partially reassembled as I have discovered). I corrected my side marker wiring. Now, my headlights have me baffled. It appears that the high beams won't work. The wiring looks correct...connectors seem right. I'm wondering if he installed the lights backwards somehow. The outer ones are Halogens..is that right? The outer lights are supposed to be the low beams? When you turn on the headlight switch to park position, the parking lights come on and the outer headlights do not, as they should, but flip the high beam switch down and the outer lights come on; exactly the same when the headlight switch is completely on. The inner lights do not come on at all. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the wiring plugs are swapped right at the headlights. Remove the plastic covers on the back of the headlights, and locate the harness connectors, white plastic things on the back of each headlight (2 per side of car).
The ones with 3 wires should be plugged onto the back of the outer lights, and the 2 wire ones on the inner (highbeam) lights.
Hope this helps!
